Rich Gannon Shared Strong Statements on Antonio Pierce, Mark Davis and the Raiders

The Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy on Sunday evening and the response to the decision has been mixed.

Whether Getsy deserved to be fired or not, the team is clearly in a tailspin and former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon shared his thoughts on head coach Antonio Pierce and the entire organization on Monday.

“At some point you have to look at the whole operation. I’m hoping that’s what is going to happen at the end of the season,” Gannon told Michael Lombardi on VSiN Live. “I can’t imagine Antonio Pierce will be back next year.”

Gannon and Lombardi were both critical of owner Mark Davis, and Gannon seems to believe Davis has been taking advice from the wrong people for a long time.

“I don’t know who he is listening to,” Gannon continued. “Mark has had a lot of people in his ears over the years. I don’t know he’s listening to and if he’s getting the right advice.”

Michael Lombardi on X (formerly Twitter): “The Raiders made coaching changes yesterday, but why did they stop at Luke Getsy? Las Vegas needs a complete remodel. And Antonio Pierce isn’t qualified to remodel a living room, let alone an NFL franchise.@RichGannon12 and I broke down the organizational issues on @VSiNLive. pic.twitter.com/3nZIlKdNyg / X”

For what it’s worth, we actually do know some of the people Davis has listened to over the years, and the voices have changed since he took over for his father in 2011.

To this point, no one has been able to turn around the Raiders for more than a season, and it feels like the organization is headed toward another massive rebuild in the months ahead.

This time around, there is an expectation that Tom Brady will be one of the strongest voices in the building. Brady enjoyed a lot of success as a player in the league, but we don’t know a lot about his abilities in terms of tearing down and rebuilding a football team.

Based on Gannon’s comments, it sounds like one of the first organizational moves after the season will be to fire Pierce.

If that happens, the Raiders will be in an all too familiar situation once again.

Who’s the favorite to be the head coach this time around?

  1. AP hired him. He’s to blame. Should’ve never done it. I will say if AP doesn’t get more involved with Grahams defense like he did last season, there going to be an anchor too. The offense didn’t give up 41 yesterday

  2. Gannon is being too critical of coach Pierce. He’s a defensive minded coach who cannot think clearly in terms of the offense just like Gruden, an offensive minded coach, hired DCs who couldn’t coach their way out of a paper bag. The choice of offensive staff should be made by Telesco and the other executives. Coach Pierce must have a genius for an OC.

  3. Bring back Rich, you should have kept him after making the playoffs, but again MD listened to whomever he does and in comes a failed coach with McDuddy, anyway! Whoever you bring in, make sure they are worth it! Your fan base is the ones who buy the merchandise, loyal fans etc… it’s time to be winners again.

  4. Draft a qb. With the qb’s we have they probably couldn’t beat many college teams. Let pierce have another year.

  5. The problem is and has been Mark Davis. I’m sure he must have learned something being around his father, but genius is something that doesn’t come through the inheritance.
Sell the team, go on your merry way with the Aces, let the Raiders at least get to a level of respectability. Championship could follow, and if not, we can say we’re supporting a team that believes in the commitment to excellence. That’s a long while since that happened.

  6. The only thing we know for sure is that Rich Gannon is the one person unqualified to say. He doesn’t know coaching from experience and Gruden made him everything he ever was. He’s never been objective about the Raiders and he’s the lat person any true Raider would listen to.

  7. Yah Tom Brady maybe the best QB so far in history but that doesn’t necessarily qualify him for being operating manager of the Raiders. 2 different occupations because he was a great qb doesn’t make him a manager of any sort period. Would you want Bellichek being your qb? Probably not. I love Crosby but he is on the wrong team go get a boat full of picks and trade him to the lions. 2 first rounders and Hendon Hooker will close the deal. Give coach AP a chance he has never had all the tools in his belt to get the job done. He has special qualities about him, he is a winner and proven and he only wants to win give him what he freaking needs Telesco and Davis,

  8. Coaching staff not on the field. Players are (Telesco).
No ability to aquire or draft QB. (Telesco). Recycled Charger (Telesco).
Seems to me, he’s next (Telesco).🤔

  9. Desmond Ridder will turn this mess around. He has a new chance and just roll with him he will do good. I read the story about Menshew in college drinking JD and trying to break his hand with a hammer. Maybe it’s time to put him on the waiver wire, I think he’s nuts, time to collect your check and go back to the swamp hillbilly. 😱 OMG what a nut bag.

  10. The answer to your questionlabout the nt raiders coach is Tom Brady come on didn’t think about tat did you guys 🤔

  11. No kidding , the wrong coach. He was brought on because the team wanted him as coach . Need offensive coach that can utilize the talent that is there. I think Gardner is capable of leading the team . Need better line that make an above average back field look good and improve. Defense has its moments but are not complemented by the offense.

  12. It’s time to allow Chucky to come in and address everything that needs to be addressed to get the job done! It’s the only way fans can trust and believe there is hope for success. You can only have a super bowl conversation at this point if you include one of two coaches that can get you there, that’s Gruden or the late John Madden, RIP and God Bless your soul. Mark, it’s time to honor Pops by stepping aside and locking arms with John. allow him to pull you through the turmoil which today has the most loyal nation deflated.

  13. Man I really had high hopes for Antonio Pierce. Then during the preseason he made some questionable decisions, in time management. I thought well is preseason it doesn’t matter, but it could have set the foundation for the season. I’m gonna hate to see him go. So far it has been a disaster. The real problem is Mark Davis.

  14. Antonio Pierce may be in over his head. But the advice of Rich Gannon is a just as ridiculous, what did Rich Gannon do for the Raiders let alone Football, So really what Davis needs is for people like Gannon to shut up, and start looking to find a quarter back who is Mobile and can see down field, and can lead with grit and confidence. Cut ties with Minshew and O’Connell

  15. One has to question exactly what does Pierce bring to the table? He’s not an X’s&O’s coach so hopefully someone else is making the call on the next OC hiring. Plus now it appears as if he can’t even get the team motivated to play.

  16. First of all, Rich, absolutely loved you as Raiders QB! My pecking order is Stabler, Plunkett, Gannon and Lamonica. Not a bad list in any discussion. Anyway, yes, unfortunately Raiders have been a grease fire for far too long. My thoughts, don’t be like the Panthers or Cowboys owners, hire some knowledgeable highly skilled front office staff and stay the Hell out of the key decision process! If you believe in your hires, why disregard their decisions.

  17. Gannon is right and i always say that they should never had left Oakland or California. LV is not a football town that size stadium anywhere in California and a Raider home game would have broken the sound barrier… MD advisors are businessmen not football minded… their greed for money is all that matters to them… tom is a good quarterback but just like coordinators they don’t make the best head coach… AL DAVIS had a good football mind and knew California’s fan base was RAIDER NATION that’s why he never left California… to bad… OAKLAND RAIDERS the name even sounds better…

  18. Tuck rule my finger and you know which one… Greg beaker and Charles woodson made the play… and just like the 1974 Pittsburgh game the zebras got it wrong… wish he would sell the stadium to the A’s and come back to California he’ll make his money back and then some…and the Raiders will have a real Home Field Advantage…

  19. Listening to rich Gannon got me jacked up now i can’t stop that’s what Raider Greats do … I’ve seen a sketch of the A’s new stadium it looks like the concert hall in Sydney Australian i know i was there for R and R during my deployments… it looks like giant bird beeks… Raiders fight for respect the rest of the season your Raiders…

  20. They better come to an answer soon. The fan base is depleting. There are a lot of us original fans but we are dieing off. We are mediocre instead of excellent. J Russell was a loooong time ago but we are still there. 2 and 7 is atrocious but I believe we will be 2 and 15. We lost Mack ,Adams, renfro,Carr,Jacobs. They should have been the neculious of the team. Get it together or else we will stay mediocre.

  21. Lifelong Raiders fan here, and Gannon is absolutely right about Mark Davis listening to the wrong people. Antonio Pierce may be a great motivator but head coach , No! I knew this would go bad when he brought in Marvin Lewis and Joe Philbin as advisers. The game is always evolving and I don’t understand why he would bring in old school ex coaches who have not been employed in the league for a very long time! That being said, AP was in over his head from the beginning and hiring Tom Telesco even further let me know no one had a clue as to the direction the team was headed in. Hopefully Brady and Seymour will have some input in turning the franchise around.

  22. I think mark Davis should hire Marcus Freeman as head coach of the raiders next season why I. Say this is because this guy writes down every mistake his players make and they get better by the week That’s my opinion

  23. Pierce had the team on complete seek and destroy at the end of last season all of a sudden the team is and the tailspin for the worst team in the NFL I don’t think so starts off of not getting a quarterback when Justin Fields is available he didn’t even hit going after him he p doesn’t even think about anybody else other than minshew come on now anyway I think Ritter look good he’s got good toys for the second carry the rest of the way the rest of the year and see what happens guess he is a complete failure has been always will be raider Nation till the end of time Paul

  24. Pretty sure Brady influenced the McDaniels hire. How did that work for us??? Who’s next Bilcheat?? The heck with that. Brady’s playing made the Patriots. Those two coaches were just along for the ride.

  25. I have to agree with Gannon, but there’s no mention of GM Telesco. And he really screwed up by not closing the deal with Kliff Kingsbury! He had agreed to come to the Raiders as OC, but wanted a 3rd year on the contract and Telesco wouldn’t do it. So he went to the Commanders and we ended up with Getsy. This was the biggest mistake of all.

  26. Pierce has the right attitude when it comes to Raiders nation. He wants to bring back the mental toughness of long ago. Unfortunately he lacks the ability to understand the nature of the business. He should have never allowed the hiring of Getsy. He should also have never stuck with the idea of running the ball. He doesn’t have the horses on offense necessary to run the ball. Stubbornness is not a good quality, so if pierce wants to return as coach he needs to start winning.

  27. As a Raider fan for more than 50 years, I remember the glory days of the SILVER and BLACK. I respect what Rich Gannon says because I know he cares. I just want that feeling again. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get back.

  28. AP wasn’t able to hire top notch coaches. He hired a bunch of former players and cast off coaches like Getsey and the other 2 that were fired. The online coach they had last year was much better but they let him go or he didn’t want to stay. What would the offense look like had they been able to hire Kingsbury? I’ve been a Raider fan since 1970. I’ve seen the championship teams and the Raiders of the 70’s and early 80’s. They haven’t been the same since fat *** Siragusa hurt Gannon. Been a tough 20 years. Still a fan, I just have to ride it out until I die or they get better. Not sure which one will happen first.

  29. Eric Bieniemi for Vegas Head Coach.
    An Andy Reid descendant and
a player’s coach whom the roster will respect and want to follow.

“It doesn’t matter if the horse is blind, just load up the wagon.” – John Madden

  30. I believe that they should fire the GM not Antonio Pierce he has little to work with and starting players we’re okay except for quarterback but they had no depth and this is what he heinherited…

  31. I wish you Rich Gannon would personally speak to Mark Davis and Tom Brady and tell them that you Rich Gannon would be interested in the position to turn this team back into a winning franchise. I have faith in you Rich Gannon that you would be the right man for the position. Would you be interested in the position?
