Antonio Pierce and the Raiders Have 2 Extreme Options if the Season Doesn’t Change Course Quickly

Outside of one quarter against the Ravens, the Raiders haven’t played like a good football team this year, and after Sunday’s 36-22 loss to the lowly Panthers, it’s starting to feel like the season might be trending in the wrong direction.

The offense sunk to a new level of disfunction against the Panthers and Patrick Graham’s defense turned in its most uninspiring effort since he joined the organization.

After the game on Sunday, head coach Antonio Pierce didn’t have answers for why the team came out flat, but he did point out that certain players made “business decisions” once the game was out of reach and that didn’t sit well with him.

The greater issue, though, is how the team played when the game was still within reach. From the outside, the Raiders looked terrible from start to finish.

Only the players and coaches know what’s going on behind closed doors, but if Pierce decides he needs to do something drastic to jumpstart the season, he essentially has two options at this early point in the season.

Make the change to Aidan O’Connell at quarterback

The Raiders need to avoid a carousel at quarterback, but the only dynamic worse than a quarterback carousel is being stubborn with a quarterback situation that isn’t working.

It might be too early to switch to O’Connell in week 4, but Minshew probably can’t afford another disastrous day like he had against the Panthers.

Minshew might not be the problem with the Raider offense, but he also might not be the solution. If that proves to be the case, maybe Pierce will make the move to O’Connell sooner than later.

Fire the Offensive Coordinator

Firing Luke Getsy needs to be a last resort, but the decision to hire him in the first place isn’t looking very good at the moment.

Getsy had success in Green Bay when he was with Aaron Rodgers, but he was fired after two years as the Bears offensive coordinator. Getsy isn’t going to be the offensive coordinator in Las Vegas for more than one season if doesn’t get better results from an offensive group that includes Davante Adams, Brock Bowers, Jakobi Meyers and Zamir White, who played better than most running backs in the league over the last quarter of the 2023 season.

Getsy was brought to Las Vegas to build a running game, and if the Raiders can’t run the ball, Pierce probably is not going to have a lot of patience with his first-year offensive coordinator.

It’s also worth noting that Getsy wasn’t the Raiders first option at offensive coordinator. He was closer to their third option and maybe lower than that. In theory, that might not work in his favor in terms of the team’s commitment to him.

The upcoming Browns game will let a lot about where the Raiders are at as an organization, but if they are embarrassed again at home, it might be time for one of the aforementioned ‘nuclear options’ to try and jumpstart the season.

  1. Fire AP immediately,he should have never been hired, period…
He’s all emotional BS,make Marvin Lewis the HC immediately.
    Fire Luke getsy immediately
Go back to last yrs playbook.

    Trade Davante immediately for
    Get Hassan Riddick and picks

It’s a dumpster fire in waiting

    1. Need to go back to AOC,
AOC and players were the comeback group that.gave some hope and ended the bad start last year and made Pierce look good and land his job this season.
      Some help in ofence coordinator
This team will respond to AOC, Bad decision in QB Mr.Pierce,. FIX IT.

    2. Keep Adam’s he will work with AOC.
Mr. Pierce just made the mistake of dumping the group that got him there.
You can see a different attitude in players when AOC is trying to work with them.

  2. You guys need to get your foot out of your you know what. You guys wanted Antonio Pierce to be the coach. Well start playing like you guys want him there. I’m a diehard Raiders fan. I’m tired of all the bull. Get it in gear

  3. I think we all understand that we need a QB and a better offensive coordinator. That being said as much as I love Adams, we are better off in the future if we trade him and hopefully get a 1st round pick for him. Then we have a chance at getting a QB. But I believe in AP.

    1. Rudy.
Just hopping something comes up to get a QB is an option but letting this guys work with AOC is a better start, we have it.
“Bubble Gum” was a bad decision, it may cost Pierce his position so far.

  4. Probably should never have hired Getsy in the first place. Raiders should look to sign Bryce Young to the qb room. Our current qb’s are not going to get us near the promised land!!!

    1. Is that your way of saying you want AOC to be the starter? Behind that offensive line? The dude’s a statue. He’d get killed with the way that line has played most of the year. At least Gardner has some mobility and even he’s gotten battered.

  5. 2 Problems. #1 we don’t have a quarterback. #2 would have never hired getsy, I don’t think he even has a pulse. Leave AP alone his defense is good. Go trade Abram for Reddick. Trade a 5 for Russell Wilson. Send Adams to reunite with the mushroom man for a boatload of picks. Go get a qb in the 2025 draft. Not shader stay away from rap boy. I like beck or Ewers.

  6. Young RT, Guard , unproved QB and OC. Koonce DE injured, overall young team . Not Surprised a slow Start. Panther’s came to Play Raiders didn’t .OL needs to Step Up quick or a long Season ahead. We knew this before the season started.

  7. The Raiders as an organization greatly overvalued the ending to last season, and it looks like it’s really damaged them. Zamir White had a good last 4 games? Well the Raiders still finished as one of the very worst rushing offenses in football last year. 4 games is 4 games out of 17, and the fact they happened to be the final 4 of the season didn’t guarantee future success. Likewise, they seem to have taken the “not McDaniels” bounce and player support for AP as a sign the team was on the rise. Instead of a mediocre team finishing with a mediocre record.

  8. Get rid. Offensive Coordinator now. Minscew what ever his name QB. Let Adian play. Just tell him 3 -5 seconds throw the ball if not. Run and dont be scared… Defense needs get *** in gear.. 98. Needs to show up whole game. Die hard. Raiders fan

  9. Yes if we don’t want another losing season we need to fire Getsy ASAP! And at QB we need to go after Bryce Young or Anthony Richardson ASAP before the deadline if we can get a a good deal because at the QB position WE SUCK! What do we have to lose? Young and Richardson are both on Garbage teams !

  10. I noticed Jack Jones making his business decisions on a couple of plays Luke Getsy is trash and they needs to trade Adams
