The Carolina Panthers Spent $1 Million to Give the Raiders a Pro Bowler

Gus Bradley’s defense is starting to become the strength of the Raiders’ roster and one of the most important players on that defense has been veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman.

Perryman didn’t join the Raiders until the last week of August and the cost to get him from the Carolina Panthers was only a swap of late-round picks (a sixth-round pick for a seventh-round pick). For nothing in return on the field, Carolina paid Perryman $1 million in the offseason and he will count against the Panthers’ salary cap this year and next year.

Joe Person on Twitter: “Panthers will clear $990,000 in cap savings this year by trading Perryman, but will have $1M in dead money over each of the next two years, per @spotrac. / Twitter”

Panthers will clear $990,000 in cap savings this year by trading Perryman, but will have $1M in dead money over each of the next two years, per @spotrac.

Adding more insult to the Panthers’ decision to dump Perryman was the announcement last week that he was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Meanwhile, the player that the Panthers elevated above Perryman in the preseason is having a forgettable season. Jermaine Carter Jr. is ranked no. 148 among NFL linebackers this year by Pro Football Focus.

The Raiders have been burned by a lot of trades in recent years, but the Perryman trade has been arguably their best. Despite missing two games this year, Perryman is still tied for the NFL lead in solo tackles.

For what it’s worth, Perryman is under contract with the Raiders through 2022, so he won’t be going anywhere after the season.

  1. I agree with Adam. Mayock has made some good pick ups for this team. Mayock shouldn’t be blamed for Grudens inability to draft talent. Mayock deserves 1 more year!

  2. Most these trades were done by the GM. Hopefully Mr. DAVIS knows that he’s not the that burned all those drafts selections 🧐

  3. GM-Mark Davis…..Head Coach Kurt Warner, Austin Coach Dabo Swinney…Coach Olsen Goodbye, Give Carr his franchise title save some money Mr. Davis, Keep Marcus if he wants to stay and use him along with Carr, create plays around both together, thats a winning combo, Tim Brown as Coach for Receivers, Peyton Manning for Quarterback Coach, we have plenty good young talent, use draft picks for experience players. 5yrs talent, not much more before signing tell them …its a privilege to play in DARK STAR

  4. Quite frankly it’s about time that we get the better end of a trade. That was a Raider trademark in the Glory days, if anyone can remember. As much as I dislike anything that has to do w/the Chargers, I always hoped over the years Perryman would come to the Raiders at some point. Always had the upmost respect for his game.
I’m really happy for him and his personal recognition, and so very happy as a Raider fan!

  5. Thank you Raiderbeat, it is about time somebody gave the best linebacker on the Raiders a
well earned compliment. If this guy wants to stay a Raider. Mr. Mark Davis please keep him
here. It is good linebackers that used to be a Raider specialty. Now, a good edge linebacker
Along with Crosby, and Ngakoue, and two or three run stopping defensive tackles, the (7)
man front would be complete if Deablo can develop. The cornerbacks are Hoobs, Hayward
Jr. with Mullen, and Amik Robertson in passing downs. Safeties Moerig and Abrams will one
day be considered the best in the league. The defense has a confidence issue but they have
some talent. Now, if they can realize that they are one unit and not individual superstars, they will surprise the NFL. And if Gus Bradley will turn linebackers, cornerbacks, and Safeties
loose to blitz to put pressure on these quarterbacks. He may find they won’t be getting beat
    in coverage so much.

  6. Just imagine the Raider team if all of their “Gruden era” draft and free agent picks were as productive and solid as the Denzel Perryman one.

  7. Very good to see Raiders making decisions with their heads instead of their hearts. (Keep up the good work!!!
