Coronavirus May Be About to Put the Chiefs at a Competitive Disadvantage Against the Raiders Next Week

This year will mark the sixth time in last 10 seasons that the Chiefs will have a bye week before playing the Raiders. For whatever reason, the NFL loves to give Kansas City an extra week to prepare for a team they have mostly dominated for the past decade.

This year, however, the schedule might actually end up doing the Raiders a favor when it comes to their matchup with the Chiefs.

As of now the Chiefs still have a bye week before playing the Raiders, but with the KC/NE game postponed until Monday or Tuesday because of Cam Newton’s positive COVID-19 test, the Chiefs may end up hosting the Raiders in week 5 on just five days rest… and only four days after that the Chiefs are scheduled to play at Buffalo for Thursday Night Football.

It’s possible the Chiefs could have their bye week shuffled around by the NFL schedule-makers, but as of now the most likely adjustment probably won’t involve their bye week. That being said, if more Patriots test positive for COVID-19 in the days ahead, it’s anyone’s guess how the schedule might play out.

If there’s any good news (from a football standpoint) for the Chiefs, it’s the fact that they will probably face a Patriots team without Cam Newton on Monday (or Tuesday). Not that football is the most important detail of Newton’s positive test… but seeing how this is a football website, that’s the perspective on the situation we’re going to talk about.

Be well, Cam.

  1. Should some coach on the Raiders going to get fired after this loss to the Bills? That 2 billion dollar stadium deserves a better team, don’t you think?
