Davante Adams is one of the unquestioned leaders of the Raiders locker room and his perspective on the team is something that is certainly relevant to the organization and the fan base.
Adams hasn’t talked a lot about the season in recent weeks, but he appeared on the newly formed Two G’s in a Pod podcast on Thursday and shared his thoughts on the season.
One of the most important comments he made on the show involved the change of dynamic in the locker room after Antonio Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels…
“It was the weirdest dynamic, or just feeling, at the end of a season that I think I’ve had in my career so far. Because, typically, when you have a season that’s not going well enough to make the playoffs, or any situation like that, you’re not in it mentally enough and you can’t wait to get to Hawaii. You can’t wait to start making your trips and stuff like that because of the scope of the season, which I think that’s kind of where I would have been had we not made the change and got something new going and kind of revitalized the team.
I think everybody was headed to a point where they were ready for the season to be over because nobody was coming into that building with a smile on their face and really happy to be at work. It just wasn’t the same feeling… the reason we all fell in love with this sport…
I think I’m better for it. It is what it is. I definitely didn’t enjoy some of the things, but I think the feeling now that we have as a team is kind of like upset that the season is over because I feel like we still have to play our best football and we really figured ourselves out as a team near the end of the year. With the change and getting A.P. in there, definitely he got the most out of all the players and just made it a much more enjoyable environment and fun space to be.”
The more we hear from players in the locker room, the picture of the Josh McDaniels’ era becomes even more clear. From the standpoint of getting the most out of his players, the McDaniels era couldn’t have gone much worse.
Without question, the organization made a big mistake by hiring McDaniels, but if the result of his tenure with the Raiders is a unified locker room under Antonio Pierce… all will be well that ends well.
As of Friday morning, Raiders owner Mark Davis had not made a decision on his next GM and head coach, but Champ Kelly and Pierce are believed to be the heavy frontrunners for their perspective jobs.
Why it hasn’t been announced yet is anyone’s guess.

Raiders should trade Aiden for Rodgers at qb. Then trade all the lazy deadwood of players. Sign players to 3 yrs contracts with option for 2 more yrs. After that 5yr window repeat the process. Raiders might be winners again. Those who believe in the Raiders and are confident in themselves will make a powerhouse again.
I think that Mark will end up announcing that AP and CK are in and make all of the Raider Nation proud. Then they can begin to get the plan together for a 2024 winning season. First being win over the locker room, then win games, get to a beautiful division standing Number 1 then the playoffs and on to the Super Bowl. The one bad sign I observed with Josh McDaniels early in his tenure was a fourth and short and elected to punt. That told me he didn’t have faith in his players. Antonio Pierce has that locker room and they would go through a wall of fire in gasoline drawers for him. That’s the difference #raidernation
