Derek Carr says he isn’t thinking about his next contract, but he also doesn’t seem to be worried about getting traded… because he still says he isn’t playing for anyone but the Raiders.
Appearing on the Harvester Sports Podcast, Carr talked on a wide range of matters, including his affinity for the Raiders.
“I’ve been on record saying I’m not playing for anybody else,” Carr said. “I’m a Raider and one day if by my choice or theirs I’m not, then I’m not. I’ll play golf and get really good at that. I want to win a championship here. It would mean so much more. Could I leave and pick my team… sure, you see a lot of guys try to do that. Maybe I’m just built different.”
So for the sake of conversation, how could a statement like that affect Carr’s potential trade value (not that anyone is thinking about that at this point)?
Most would be inclined to call his bluff, but it would probably be wise to consider Carr’s perspective on his own career before assuming he wouldn’t walk away from football in his prime.
Asked if he could play until he is 50 years old, Carr believes he could.
“Could I physically? Yeah. 100 percent. Will I? Absolutely not,” Carr said. “I have way more important things to do at some point in my life.”
Carr has talked at length in the past about his Christian faith and it’s no secret that he intends to be involved in full-time ministry of some kind when his football career is over. He also, of course, has his family and golf.
One other note related to Carr’s stance on playing only for the Raiders. If Carr doesn’t have trade value, the Raiders’ only real option after the season is to re-sign him. The alternative could potentially be to get nothing for him in return.

I think you should take Derek at his word, Raider for life.
Agreed Raiders for life
Going nowhere else and winning a championship in same sentence means alot. Maybe reading too much into it but the phrases: hometown discount, team friendly, and restructuring to keep; are swirling through my head.
It’s a mighty fine Kool aid I sip 🤙
Amen PastorRaider.. There’s enough of that Kool Aid to share so why not hand it out! I personally would be perfectly fine to keep DC on my team until he decided on his own 10yrs from now. He’s becoming a seasoned veteran that still hasn’t hit any peak. He’s a class act of a man and his 2021 team is standing right their with him ready to show what they’ve got!
If I were the Raiders . . I would let Carr play as long as he is able! He would do just about anything to be a Raider and win! He probably will sign a team friendly new contract to free up cash for other talented free agents! He is the kind of teammate I would want to go to battle with for sure! Great talent, hard worker, great attitude, and a good all around man!
He is a flat out liar he changed his statement from last year PLEASE check his statement from last year he said that he would’nt play for any other team OR COACH your susposed to be true to your religon, but your a flat out liar, and a sinner for lying. All those kids looking upto a FLAT OUT LIAR
You are one ignorant stupid dude.Of course he’s playing with same team but coach resigned so you can’t call him a dinner for that stupid ***.
Jason, you’re a weird dude man…lol
WE WEAR THE SILVER, WE WEAR THE BLACK, others WILL imitate, BUT ! ! ! . . . NO ONE ! ! ! . . . CAN DUPLICATE, RAIDER NATION ! ! ! . . . let’s GOOO RAIDERS ! ! ! . . . the SILVER & BLACK, RN4L, RAIDER fan since 1979. Just WIN BABY . . . AL DAVIS
Wow!! That, ” IS ” the coolest , thing I have ever heard a professional athlete ever say!! Carr, far and away has been thru way to much drama, for any one player, athlete, ( QUARTERBACK) , to ever have to endure! All the coaches, all the b.s. talk of trades constantly, and for years being the epitome of what an NFL QUARTERBACK TRULY IS. Yes a ring would not only be well deserved, ( and way overdue) but for what he’s been thru in this day and age of way overpriced blow -hards , has- beens, and never- were, Carr is the best. Keep him ! Cherish him, and give him some stability , as in lengthy contracts for some talented receivers and running backs, and offensive linemen. Just his ability to stay focused and have the best attitude about the RAIDERS , TRULYREPRESENTS .
Why does it say I made my previous comments at 2:17 a.m.? When in fact it is 7: 20 p.m. right now ?
I really hope the Raiders resign Carr.I know he will be what the Raiders need to get to the super bowl. This year and years to come.Win babe Raidersssss
How bout all Carr’s teammates follow his lead with that same love and commitment and The Sillver and Black reckon back to that 70′ badass attitude and hey.
…..win a championship! Derrick Carr rocks!
Lost for a while… this dude wants to bring back us to life, LETS GO NATION!
This guy is an inspiration!!! NEVER been more proud to be a Raider fan
It’s good to hear that our QB wants to be raider! I’ll take someone this devoted to be on our team any day!
Derek will play for no one else. We will win multiple Superbowls with him. He will retire as a Raider. He will be in Canton some day. He is a man of his word and he is of champion pedigree. He plays above his talent level with heart and toughness. He reminds me a lot of Phil Villapiano (sp). They both play(ed) above and beyond their God given talent level. RNFL.
Now we’re getting back to the old world, once a RAIDER ALL WAYS A RAIDER!!!!!!
Derek Carr is a very good quarterback
and if the Raiders can stay healthy they
can make the playoffs for the first time
since 2016. They must keep improving
game by game!
As a lifelong Raider fan I appreciate Carr wanting to be a Raider for life. But if I’m his agent I’m telling him to STFU!!
I hope Carr does stay on the team as long as possible! He has been seriously underrated his whole career. He has become my favorite player of all time! He brought us back to relevancy, before we drafted him the was at least a decade where the Raiders could barely get in the end zone. He is a top 5 QB in the league, he has fun playing, and he loves the Raiders… What more can you ask for? #DerekCarr #RaiderNation #Raider4Life
Carr is one of the smartest quarterbacks I have ever seen, how many years did everyone diss him for always takn the easy check-down throws, he didn’t have the trust he now is gaining more n more with a class of well balanced receivers n he is letting them ball for it n putting the deep balls on his receivers in stride he NOW has trust in the receivers because they r shown him that they deserve the ball gonna b great to watch the raiders in the next few years
