Flagship Radio Host: Raiders Play Calling “As Bad as I’ve Ever Seen It”

The Raiders have big problems on offense right now and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

In his first year as offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy’s offense isn’t finding success running the ball or passing the ball, and the group has struggled all season to find any kind of consistency.

They have no identity.

Is the issue the play calling? The offensive coordinator? The quarterbacks?

No one, including the coaching staff, has been able to identify the problem or the solution, and flagship radio host ‘JT the Brick’ talked about an offensive detail this week that has frustrated him from the start of the season.

“There are a lot of things going wrong and then as I add into the layers of the show today, the play calling right now is as bad as I’ve ever seen it. Ever seen it! It’s that bad,” JT said on his weekday Raider Nation Radio show.

“I don’t think it’s all on the play caller. I think a lot of it has to do with personnel,” JT continued. “A friend of mine who worked the game yesterday texted me in the middle of a monologue. He said, quote, ‘To my count, we run eight jumbo plays, jumbo packages, right, with the extra tight end, the run plays.’”

“He’s basically telling you, you’re going to run the jumbos. And that doesn’t count with Mumford split out wide twice. What the hell was Thayer Munford doing split out wide at the wide receiver position?”

Head coach Antonio Pierce explained what they were trying to do with Munford lined up as a wide receiver, but he also doubled down on the idea that the Raiders are going to continue to lean on the running game.

“We got to run the ball,” Pierce told members of the media on Monday.

“[We] can’t sit there and throw the ball 50 times, 40 times. We haven’t been successful doing it, so we’ll keep pounding again. On Wednesday, we’ll get back out there again… and figure out how to run the ball… [and] do whatever it takes to win the line of scrimmage.”

Statistically, the Raiders have the second-worst running game in the NFL, averaging just 79 rushing yards per game.

Only the Cowboys (74.1) are averaging fewer rushing yards per game.

  1. Get rid of all the coaches Get rid of the quarterbacks we need help for the whole team we are a very bad team which is sad for me I have been a raiders fan since 1963 and I have never seen us look so bad and the ticket prices they should be cut in half

  2. The RAIDERS oc is absolutely the worst thing that has ever happened to the RAIDERS.

  3. They actually call plays that have zero chance of success continually. It’s part of the philosophy apparently. Really. ****. Weird. Getsy learned plays from someone else, can’t do his own original XO’S.

  4. The Raiders are a Raging Dumpster Fire. They need to clean house. Might even need to consider AP, but he has no QB’s and it’s his first year. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings either way. Time to start over

  5. Cant believe raiders coaching sux this bad..go 50/50 on pass run until minshew benched..
Need new hc and oc..wouldn’t be surprised to see minshew tell them all to fo

  6. Luke Getsey is without a doubt the worst play caller ever On Sunday the first ball they threw was a long ball even if it did not work best play of the day. It loosened up the defence for two plays then they knew it was back to the run so they did not have to look over their shoulder anymore.

  7. Antonio Piece is not going to sugar coat anything. He gets straight to the point. He knows Luke Getsy and the whole offense is garbage. The defense has given them chances. Another turnover for Minshew. 12 on the season. What’s next

  8. I feel sorry For Raider Nation until there’s a change in ownership. This is going to continue There is no leadership and the culture is a losing culture.
When your expectations are low your results. Are the same? I personally will not waste money to see a game until this team gets better. Please Mr. Said Davis sell the team. Someone who knows about football.
