Former NFL Executive Says Raiders Should Pursue Trade for Bryce Young

The Raiders aren’t expected to make any major moves before the trade deadline, but one decision they will at least have to consider is the idea of adding a young quarterback to assess over the final two months of the regular season.

The addition of former third-round pick Desmond Ridder was a zero-risk maneuver that doesn’t have a lot of upside, and some believe the Raiders should be one of the teams calling the Carolina Panthers about former first-overall pick Bryce Young.

Former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum was on ESPN’s Get Up this week, and he explained why Young to the Raiders would make a lot of sense.

“Bryce Young [should be] traded from the Carolina Panthers to the Las Vegas Raiders for a fourth-round pick, and the thinking on this is, if I’m the Raiders, the verb is scour,” Tannenbaum said.

“I need multiple quarterbacks, and we’ve seen in the NFL guys, be it Geno Smith, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, sometimes you need to change the series,” Tannenbaum continued. “For whatever reason, it hasn’t worked in Carolina. Myself, along with everybody else, thought Bryce Young had a real chance. So if I’m the Raiders, I want Bryce Young, and I’m going to continue to look for a quarterback.”

While Young might make sense for the Raiders, at least one NFL insider doesn’t think the Raiders will have interest in him.

The Athletic’s Vic Tafur does, however, think the Raiders would consider Anthony Richardson if he becomes available.

“I think the Raiders might be more interested in Anthony Richardson,” Tafur said this week on the Just Win podcast. “I think the high concerns about Bryce Young that everybody has are also shared in this building. I don’t think the Colts are going to trade Richardson, but if they were going to, I think the Raiders might listen or be involved in whatever talks there were.”

Even if the Raiders are interested in trading for Young, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini believes the Panthers won’t consider trading him until after the season.

“It’s not a surprise the Carolina Panthers continue receiving multiple calls from teams interested in trading for former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. At this time, Carolina is not considering moving the quarterback, who is starting Sunday against the Saints,” Russini reported on Saturday. “The Panthers were encouraged by his improvements and overall commitment to the team in his return to the field last week. I do expect the team will assess everything this offseason and make a decision on Young’s future in Carolina. NFL executives around the league believe if Carolina decides to trade him they’ll get a better deal by waiting until offseason anyways.

It is possible Young will have more trade value in the offseason, but a team like the Raiders would definitely benefit from getting a look at him, or any other quarterback prospect they might be interested in, for the final two months of the season.

  1. They should have started ridder but no wait till we fall behind first… Artificial Intelligence is no excuse for natural stupidity… by the way Jacobs is closing in on a 1000 yards who’s bright idea was it to let him walk.Hunter was doing really well but greed said adams was their man. Carr was the last steady Quarterback the raiders had but Ronald McDonald sorry i mean Josh mcdaniel let him go..their both clowns anyways… need a person who can pick players not depend on just one superstar… offensive line coach or offensive coordinator or both need to explain why this raiders offense is so unprepared . And stop saying it’s a learning lesson… it seems the offensive line can’t protect the Quarterback or the coaches and the front office takes it out on personal that are productive. At least AL had a Football Mind…

  2. I hope for Young’s sake that they don’t trade for him. With this coaching staff , and lame OL, this will only be a graveyard for any young signal caller. The Raiders are a mess! And it all starts with Mark Dummy Davis..

  3. I agree but with all the drama and turmoil going on here and the way we lose games, would anybody want to come here , this organization is phucked to the max

  4. This is complete nonsense. Bryce Young is not the answer.
The Raider’s had their AP experiment; and while he is a GREAT motivator, he clearly can’t “Outcoach” many of the OCs out there in the NFL, and especially in our division. If we bring in a new big name OC for 2025 under Pierce, they will only eventually leave for a head coaching job of their own if successful.

The Smartest thing the Raiders could do if they want to build a great team is the following:
    1. Go after Lion’s OC Ben Johnson. Johnson is a proven talent. This way the Raiders will have their coach and play caller of the future. He can bring in his own OC and coach him up.
    2. Let the new coach (Johnson) pick their own QB in the 2025 draft . We’ll have the draft capital in the coming draft to get our man.
    3. Use the 108mil we’ll have in 2025 cap space to let Johnson work with Telesco to bring in surrounding talent for our new QB and continue to bolster the defense.

Any other move to put a patch on a flat tire, will only delay our success another year.
