After a rookie season plagued by a mysterious leg injury, it sounds like Gareon Conley may finally be close to returning to full strength.
Jon Gruden addressed Conley’s status earlier this week and offered the most optimistic update on Conley’s health in months.
Via Raiders.com:
“Conley is doing well. He’s very close. He participated in the veteran mini-camp in the walkthroughs and he’s running with our defensive backs out here in the field. He’s extremely close to getting the green light. We’re just being smart with him.”
It may be only coach speak (Gruden does that too, right?) but Conley’s apparent progress is starting to feel believable again.
A handful of encouraging images have surfaced on the interweb in recent days – including the one below of Conley going high for an interception.

For what it’s worth, Gruden did also say that he expects Conley to be cleared for training camp.

Great sign. THE Ohio State University has been producing great DB’s of late and health permitting this dude is one of them. It’s almost like that old cliche of having two first round picks when one misses most or all of his rookie year. Mark my words our secondary will be much improved with him and Melvin on the outside, a mix of Wright and Senquez in the slot, Worley and Nick for depth, Gilchrist and Joseph in the safety positions. We went quantity over quality sure but having three decent corners didn’t do much for us last year. I feel really good about us finding some good players in our bunch.
Yes I agree big improvement you forgot to mention Obi Manifalio
