Goodell: Raiders Owner Mark Davis Calls to Talk About Officiating A Lot

Is there a legitimate conspiracy going on within the NFL and it’s officiating of Raider games?

The data indicates that the league at least shows an identifiable degree of officiating bias against the Raiders. Certainly at this point, the penalty discrepancy is not debatable.

But are the penalties something that come more from reputation or does the league have something more calculated going on when it comes to officiating the Raiders? Not that either explanation would make a reasonable excuse.

Raider fans have understandably been cursing NFL officiating for decades and in case you were wondering, Raiders owner Mark Davis has been doing plenty of the same.

“I hear from Mark [Davis] frequently after games,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told a Las Vegas audience last week. “It’s not the best phone call. He likes to talk about officiating a lot. He sort of picked that up from his father.”

Obviously it’s good to know Davis has been raising questions with the commissioner, but it will also be interesting to see if the league changes its approach to officiating the Raiders after a recent report introduced data that calls into question the league’s officiating disparity against the Raiders.

The numbers confirm what the eyes have seen for years… when the Raiders take the field on Sundays, they are usually competing against two teams – the ones throwing footballs and the ones throwing flags. The question now is will the league do anything about it?

  1. They better get it corrected now before they show the integrity of the game has been altered.

    1. The integrity of the game has been called into question. This is not the first season where refs unfairly penalized the Raiders. They have Astronomicly caused deviscating out comes of games, with intense focus on the Raiders.

  2. Raiders should have taken care of this issue 25 years ago. A couple of goons sent to the NFL refs homes would solve all problems instantly. If a man gets his legs broken in front of his wife and children he will think twice before cheating or having a vendetta. Plenty of people in this world able and willing to perform violent acts for money with zero fear of law enforcement officers. Show me the money Mark and the trauma unit will be filled with zebras.

  3. The pressing question is, “Why wouldn’t the league take this bias against the Raiders seriously”? If the Saints can change the game of football by keeping the game fair and honest , why then should the Raiders be ignored for bringing up a documented factual case of bias by the officiating body . The evidence is so blaintant that it would hold up in a court of law in favor of the Raiders. It’s obvious that the officials have been ABOVE the league’s rules and regulations set forth by the league itself. If the officiating process does not rectify the situation in the future, it just goes to substantiate the fact that the Las Vegas Raiders will continue to play in a corrupt and tainted league with no regards to the same rules that apply to every other team in the NFL. JUSTICE MUST BE UPHELD…….
The question now turns into, “When will this injustice be addressed and eliminated”???????

  4. As a life long Raider fan … there is no doubt of the bias … maybe its because of the black jerseys ., maybe because of Al Davis and his standing in the league ., Being a maverick has its frictions . However when these officials come to the games and focus on the raiders play and not of the opponent it becomes evident . I wonder if the team has more calls against them when wearing their home Black uniforms ? of course we all know we took one for the team when the league and country wanted to have the Patriots represented in the Super bowl after 911 … red white and blue and all … then pitting the Raiders vs Tampa bay … some things seem to be more than coincidence .

  5. I’ve noticed the amount of penalties against the Raiders don’t seem like there’s more of them,it’s when they happen now.almost like were not allowed to gain momentum, and free first and tens for the opposition.frustration to the max, capital HELL to “what the *€#@ was that flag?

    1. The NFL has alot of Raider hater Refs, the index card comes to mind as well as Carr sliding feet first was call out of bounds. Penalties against Ritchie incognito against Houston cost us the Game late in the 4th. So yeah its a biased League

  6. The officials seem to have their own agenda these days and the negative impact that decades of bad calls has had on the game is staggering. The game is a shell of its former self as a result of rule changes and the general inability to officiate through the changes correctly. Effective changes in the process are long overdue.

  7. Somebody needs to get that article to Goodell, and the rest of the NFL cronies. Hopefully somebody in Las Vegas will confront him about the article showing the Raiders are being targeted by the NFL officials!
Please somebody with the chance to do so, ask him point blank!!!!! Do it for Raider Nation!

  8. I am a true Raiders fan for 4o years and the amount of bullshit calls make me think that some of the Referees are takeing bribes for line on the game’s or paid off by other NFL owners this all started with the New England Patriots over 30 years ago that is where they should start looking back as far to.

  9. The NFL would be best suited using high school referees. The caliber the have now are a joke. Not sure how they
    keep their jobs

  10. How many Refs are paid off because of the odds posted per game? Their are to many bullshit calls going on that has alot to do with outcomes of games. Or dose this stem from other NFL Owners like the New England Patriots battling with AL Davis for the past 30 years ÷ ?

  11. Bingo!!! Right off the top, Sir. You hit it on the nail. That was a great article…true to it’s core. And the NFL needs to be true to the fans & them-selves. Referees are a disgrace, through out the league, for years. Time for a change and to do what’s right. Not just for the league, but also for the fans. Pleeeaaazzzzzeeee if you listening… fix it and let the “real games” began.
    Thank you. Reggie Lawrence

  12. Well it’s about time somebody did something and I’m still pissed about the truck rule bs!

  13. Yes , the refs need to be shaken up because it’s time for league to put the past behind them ( what happened between them and Mr. Davis ) thats old news. The league are bullies too ! And furthermore , its time to put Branch and Tatum , etc. in the HOF and to put the childessness ways away ” dont you think “

  14. Mark is reinterating the obvious. Touchy subject since the league would have to admit bias before fixing it so…. Makes the NFL lose legitimacy collectively having it out for any team even if it wasn’t our Raiders. Let’s not be surprised if playing in a new stadium combined with hosting the draft results in some improvement as far as the critical obvious bad calls that bring back pick6s, call back big plays and extend drives for opponents after stopping them on 3rd down. The recent report exposed the decades long bias with no grey area.

  15. If the league continues to essentially take hard earned cash from the Raiders Fan base on a preordained product ( biased officials and officiating) then it is no better than Professional Wrestling where the outcome is already known, if this is the case then come out and say so then we as fans can choose to follow the farce or spend our hard earned cash somewhere else .

  16. Ever since Al sued the league they have had a vendetta against my beloved raiders.Tuck rule which cost us a Super Bowl to this season’s multiple off sides against Cellon farrall and many dps. This season. Makes it hard to respect the process.

  17. NFL needs to make referees accountable for their bad calls through fines, suspensions or firing. Until they are made accountable & hitting them where it hurts, they will continue to be sub-par & obviously biased.

    1. You hit that one right on the head. Ref’s being fined would stop so much bullshhh. There’s way too much video to back up any call. They should never get a call wrong.

  18. GOOD FOR MARK….TO HOPE THAT ROZELLI’s FORMER LACKEY HAS FORGOT ABOUT HIS OBVIOUS BIAS TOWARDS THE RAIDERS, OR , LET BIGONS BE BIGONS IS OVER!!! THERE ISN’T ENOUGH PUNISHMENT FOR THIS MAN. BETWEEN THAT SCHEDULE THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE MADE IT PAST THE FIRST PROOF READER THAT INCLUDES ,SOME YEARS, TRIPLE BACK TO BACK TO BACK EAST COAST NOON KOs IS SO BLATANT THAT HE SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED IN HIS OBVIOUS OVERT HATRED. THEN COMPARE THE PACKERS SCHEDULE, HIS FAVORITE TEAM. AS FAR AS OFFICIATING..2 SIMPLE WORDS…..TUCK RULE. WE NEED TO UPGRADE TO VINCE MCMAHON.

  19. It will change. With the Raiders moving to Las Vegas. Its a corporate team now. They belong to the NFL. Vegas see’s the Raiders as an attraction. So however they can produce money. WWE style!
