Davante Adams has moved on from the Raiders, but the story of how his time with the team came to an end is just getting started.
It’s been the worst-kept secret around the Raiders for months that Adams wasn’t happy in Las Vegas, but going back to last year, Adams has always told fans not to believe the rumors until they come from him.
Adams was officially traded to the Jets on Tuesday morning, and the details around his complicated final months with the Raiders are apparently on the way.
Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter has been hinting at drama around Adams since before the start of the season and while he hasn’t jumped into those details yet, he says they are on the way.
“This is one of those instances where you feel bad for the organization. I’ve seen a lot of stuff out there attributing blame to Mark Davis, attributing blame to players, attributing blame to Antonio [Pierce]. I certainly can see where people feel that way, but it’s not a sentiment that I share,” Hondo said this week on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “I think the one who has the right to be the [angriest] is Mark Davis, and I’ll get into all that, I promise, at another date.”
“I don’t think that he plays [again for the Raiders],” Hondo continued on Tuesday morning, prior to news breaking on the trade. “I think his hamstring injury may hamper that, although I think that hamstring injury could heal up pretty quick with a trade. I’m not saying he’s faking, I just think it could… there’s a lot of dynamics here and if I’m Mark Davis, and I’m not, I’m pretty hurt.”
Reading into those comments a little, it sounds like Adams gave the Raiders reason to believe he wasn’t going to bail on the season, but if that’s the case, this is still a situation the team should have seen coming.
Even if the Adams was playing at an All-Pro level in the first half of the season, the Raiders had a difficult decision coming on his contract. His deal could have easily been restructured, but that would only make sense if Adams was committed to the organization.
Just a guess… look for the details in the coming days to reveal Adams had one leg out the door in Las Vegas for a while.
How long, you ask?
Who knows… maybe all the way back to the offseason Jimmy Garoppolo was signed to replace Derek Carr.

Once a player is gone , who cares why you ain’t going to get him back, raiders need to fix things around them and move forward not worry about why someone left he wanted a trade he got traded the end
A lot of uncertainty surrounding this organization. I don’t see them moving on from Pierce or Telesco. I think, both, will be with the team next season. The OC will probably be the scapegoat, but one has to ask, Is AP over his head being a HC in the NFL? One has to question his ability to lead this team, especially with the lack of effort and undisciplined play! Add to that his social media ploys and questionable game management, one has to question whether Davis screwed up ANOTHER HC hire. Only time will tell but, unbelievably, things may get worse before they get better.
Maybe the small number of actually Raider fans at home games should start wearing paper bags to show their displeasure with the team’s direction.
Well, that’s just great. I thought Antonio Pierce was liked by everyone in the locker room? That’s a lie. We have players making business decisions on the field and some players just not making the effort. Pierce should be on a short leash. A losing season, and he should be kicked to the curb. Keeping it real, peace out.
Can’t blame Adam’s for wanting out. He came to play with Carr. McDaniel was allowed to use Carr as a scapegoat for his own poor coaching and leadership skills. Carr was cut and shown little respect by McDaniels. Carr was cut without a legit replacement available, haven’t had a NFL level QB since Carr left. NFL careers are short, I don’t blame Adam’s for not wanting to waste his career playing for this dumpster fire organization and this is coming from a die hard Raiders fan of 50 years.
Stick with O’Donnell, get rid of the Offensive coordinator please Raiders have a lot of great players. Look if those guys have no name start making one for them selves. They are in the NFL start acting like it. They need play action football is strategy and a plan of attack so attack.
Adam’s is gone he’s a great player but move on the guy is a10 year player you have rookies put them on and let them work they are in the NFL start earning and play ball these spots analysts saying aren’t ready yes they are there dream came through so step up and play
It is what it is, Adams and Rodgers never won a Super Bowl together in their prime and never played in one together in their prime. Maybe now with him over 40 and Adams 32 with B the dysfunctional jets they will lol they had defense in Green Bay and great organization they deserve each other. Adams quit on his team 👎
I think this goes back to how Carr was raised unceremoniously sent packing Adam’s came to the Raiders solely to play with his College QB and roommate, so I think this falls on McDaniels and Ziegler, they basically lied to him. It’s obvious that playing with a QB he is comfortable with is the most important thing to him, the only reason he left Green Bay was because he didn’t know what Rodgers was going to do. I disagree with the writer though, ultimately this still lands at Mark Davis feet, he is ultimately responsible, he could have intervened in the Carr situation, who knows where they would be if they had still cut ties with the Patriot way idiots and promoted Pierce, they would have a solid QB to go along with Adam’s, Meyer, Bowers, the makings of a potent offense.
