Insider Seems to Reveal Raiders’ Asking Price for Jakobi Meyers

With the addition of Tyler Lockett on Monday, many expect the Raiders to trade veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers before the November 4 trade deadline.

Several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, have shown interest in Meyers, but it doesn’t sound like the Raiders are going to just let him go to the highest bidder.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, teams are having a hard time getting a read on the Raiders as it pertains to Meyers, and some believe it’s going to take “at least” a Day 2 pick in the draft to get him.

If what Schultz is reporting is accurate, the Raiders want at least a third-round pick for Meyers and that might be consistent with what Lincoln Kennedy said last week about the Steelers potentially having a fourth-round pick on the table for Meyers.

The most likely reason teams are not getting a “clear read” on what the Raiders plan to do with Meyers is that they haven’t gotten the offer they want yet.

Rather than upping their offer, it sounds like one or more teams are putting out the message that the Raiders aren’t serious about trading him.

Ultimately, the Raiders might not be motivated to take a fourth-round pick or lower for Meyers because of the compensatory pick they will most likely get if they let him leave in free agency.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore talked about that dynamic before the start of the season and nothing about the situation has changed since his comments in August.

“It’ll be a third-round pick for him,” Bonsignore said on the Vegas Nation First and 10 podcast.

“I don’t think the Raiders are going to trade him for anything less because… if you let him walk, you’re probably going to get a third or fourth round pick as compensation.”

Based on everything that has been reported to this point, the situation seems fairly simple…

The Raiders want a third-round pick or better for Meyers and if no one is willing to meet that price, they seem willing to keep him around for the last two months of the season and let him sign with someone else in the offseason.

The one hint of a suggestion that Meyers might be available for less than a third-round pick, though, came on Monday with the addition of Lockett.

Why sign Lockett if the plan is to keep Meyers for the remainder of the season?
