Is Allen Robinson Headed For Free Agency After All?

Could Allen Robinson hit free agency?

It doesn’t seem likely, but there is at least a little buzz going around that the Jaguars may choose against using the franchise tag on Robinson.

Two weeks ago, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport talked about the teams that would be interested in the Jaguars’ star receiver if he became available and said the Raiders are one of the teams to watch.

The Raiders reportedly plan to keep Michael Crabtree around, but don’t be surprised if his status changes quickly if general manager Reggie McKenzie can lure in a better (or even equal) option.

Robinson, who is still just 24 years old, essentially has one dynamic season to his resume and it came under offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who now carries the same title in Oakland.

In 2015, Robinson tallied 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns, but was not as dynamic in 2016. Robinson’s 2017 season ended with an ACL injury he sustained in the first game of the year.

The cost for Jacksonville to apply the franchise tag to Robinson in 2018 is projected to be around $16 million.

The deadline for teams to apply the franchise tag is March 6.

  1. Would be REALLY foolish of the Jags to give him $16m. They’ve already proven that they can win without him, so there’s NO reason to pay him that much. Oakland could REALLY use this guy and dump a (seeming) locker room cancer at the same time. Give Robinson around $12m, while dumping Crab’s $8m and it wouldn’t be so bad to drop that kind of coin on a WR.

  2. Robinson has potential but if the ask is very high , I think I would stay away from him . His resume isn’t strong enough to justify a high pay day . Especially if the Raiders sign Trumaine Johnson who will come at a high price .

  3. To much money, if we could get him for 8-9 mill a season might be nice, and there’s one kid in the draft that I would love to see our Raiders pick up in the later rounds if available, his name is Allen Lizard from Iowa st. guy catches everything thrown at him even bad passes, saw 3 of his games & he’s a Monster to, he’s really under the radar so I’m hoping big Reg will take a shot on him, 👍
