Is Russell Wilson Trending Toward Being a Legitimate Quarterback Option for the Raiders?

Are the Raiders a potential landing spot for Russell Wilson?

At least one national insider thinks the fit wouldn’t be great, but there are a few reasons to believe the option could be on the table for both sides.

From the Raiders standpoint, they need a relatively inexpensive veteran option that would allow them to keep their options open in the draft. Wilson could potentially fit that description.

It has been rumored that Wilson might be willing to sign next year for the veteran minimum and that would be a situation the Raiders would have to consider.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler talked about that dynamic this week on SportsCenter.

“Everybody I’ve talked to around the league expects the Denver Broncos at some point around the new league year in the next few weeks to rip the band-aid off and release Russell Wilson even though they owe him $39 million in guaranteed money,” Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter. “But they can start new, he can go sign somewhere else. The feeling is he’ll sign for considerably less, maybe even the league minimum, because he’s got all that money in hand guaranteed. And so, he’s going to have options. The feeling I get from talking to teams and scouts is that he’s still an NFL starter, there will be a job somewhere for him.”

The Raiders might not consider Wilson their top choice, but if they could get him at a veteran minimum cost, why wouldn’t they pursue that option?

We don’t know what the Raiders are planning at quarterback, but at least one media personality with legitimate access to the organization thinks the Wilson option is one that’s being considered.

“I think that Russell Wilson is an option [for the Raiders],” JT the Brick said this week on his daily Raider Nation Radio show.

That might not qualify as a report from JT, but it’s probably not a blind shot in the dark, either.

If Wilson is willing to accept a veteran minimum deal, the Steelers have been a popular potential destination for him, but Wilson might also have a little motivation to stay in the division based on the way the Broncos treated him over the last several months…

Additionally, there’s a good chance that Wilson’s celebrity spouse would prefer the sun and lights of Las Vegas over the clouds and cold of Pittsburgh.

Just something to think about as we’re now just a little more than two weeks away from the start of free agency.

  1. I still think Justin feilds is the best option he has more upside Russell Wilson’s already capped out that’s just my opinion long time raider family and Justin fields and then we can maybe move up in the draft and snatch on Marvin Harrison Jr that would be set or the right tackle from Oregon State

  2. A No Brainer if the “RAAAA-DERS!” want to legitimately compete offensively with Chiefs and Chargers next year … and to have the Broncos pay for it is icing on the cake. Russ had a good year last year and maybe AP can work some of his magic on him too. Run the ball, play good D, and let Russ and Devante/Jacobi cook on third down.

  3. Really ?? No Really??? Russell Wilson, Cousins,Mayfield,Winston,Menshew…this you think is going to get you to play in the same division as mahommes and herbert. Harbaughs coaching will only make Herbert better. Yikes! No Raider Nation this is the year we just pony up and do what it takes to get Jaydon Daniels nothing else. Send adams who i love as a player to the jets for a brinks truck. Go get Aiyuik from the 49ers. Add through the draft and free agency, chemistry will be built . Example the texans from worst to playoffs in 1 year. Raiders please don’t blow this chance on a qb that is 2 dimensional please just pay what the freakin bears want. It will all be worth it

  4. We need not gamble on neither Justin Fields nor Russell Wilson. We moving forward not backwards
