Jon Gruden Expected To Surpass Richest Coaching Deal “By A Landslide”

Jon Gruden has all but been named the Raiders next head coach and when the final numbers are announced – or leaked – there will be a few envious NFL coaches.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Raiders owner Mark Davis essentially decided to present Gruden with an offer he couldn’t refuse.

“When it comes in, I will just say that the total value of the deal will be the richest deal that any coach has, by a landslide.”

Several reports have speculated that Gruden’s deal would be worth around $10 million per year and extend at least five years.

Not a bad salary for a guy who hasn’t coached in a decade.

On a side note, The Athletic’s Vic Tafur indicated the Raiders will owe former head coach Jack Del Rio a figure around $14 million  from his deal he signed a year ago – a massive number, but not quite as intimidating next to Gruden’s deal.

Also not as intimidating of a figure when considering the money the Raiders would lose if they tried to move to Las Vegas following another 6-win season… or two.

  1. Davis is going all in on this move. If he wins, and the Raiders are in a position to go to the Super Bowl when they move to Vegas, he’ll win – at least at first. If , though, the Raiders are still mediocre by that time, Davis and his Vegas project will crash and burn!

  2. All I can say, somehow I always knew Gruden would be back. What really thrills me I get to see him be a RAIDER the second time around!
