It might be too early to start talking about firing coaches, but the Raiders haven’t met even the lowest expectations this year and regardless of the message Mark Davis put out last week, there aren’t many players and coaches in the building who should feel confident about future with the team.
Lincoln Kennedy was asked on Monday if any players or members of the coaching staff should be on the hot seat, and the former Raider great didn’t mince words.
“Hell, yeah,” Kennedy told Locked on Raiders Squad Show co-host Shantelle Chand.
“The performances aren’t getting it done and you can be as positive as you want in that locker room. You could walk in with a big old smile on your face, you can go out there and practice hard. But facts are facts. If you’re not winning football games, you’re probably not going to be on this team much longer. I don’t care if you’re a coach or a player. It’s just that simple.”
Asked which member of the coaching staff might be moving closest to the hot seat, Kennedy and co-host Q Myers both mentioned offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
Kelly is the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the NFL, and after eight weeks, the Raiders are the second-worst scoring offense in the league. Only the Titans (13.8), who fired their head coach last week, are scoring fewer points per game this year than the Raiders (14.7).
There is still a lot of football left, but Kelly is probably going to have the shortest leash of anyone on the coaching staff going forward.
Kelly might be making $6 million per year, but that’s a small number compared to the $58.5 million that Geno Smith was guaranteed at signing.
If it comes down to Smith or Kelly, don’t be surprised if it’s the quarterback that ultimately gets the benefit of the doubt in Las Vegas… and not the offensive coordinator.

I Agree Lincoln Kennedy… but at least Kelly has cred from Many Great past performances in his Long Career… The other Culprit whose seat should be so hot that his pants catch fire is… Brennan Carroll!!! He has No Business Coaching anything except perhaps PeeWee Football. Please Daddy – Give Baby Boy a Check but get a REAL O-Line Coach. Lincoln – have you ever seen worse O-line Play? This nepotism has got to end – Dump him now – there has to be a Assistants Assistant who can move in and do a better job. Move Brennie Boy into the office near Daddy… I know a bit about O-Line Coaching and Success… As Always Just my Never to be Humble Opinion
It would be interesting to ask the scouts if their college evaluation is even considered, do coach and GM make their own selection. Is their draft evaluation that bad?
So we can’t fire Pete cus you can’t fire coaches every year but we can fire the OC cuz he isn’t succeeding with the handpicked quarterback of the previous mentioned head coach cuz his handpick has had 1 decent season out of 15.
Gee, I’d be more mad at the decision makers that didn’t get me Darnold, Dart or D Jones than I would Chip Kelly especially when 2 of the 3 required no draft compensation & the 3rd went for like 2 2nd round picks, but hey I’m not the owner of a WNBA dynasty. You know the league where NBA owners don’t care how their WNBA teams do & only subsidize it for PR purposes
Why not Wisniewski and Kennedy offensive line coaches? Why not Charles Woodson defensive back coach? Why not Rich Gannon Quarterback coach? Even Warren Sapp as
defensive line coach? I don’t understand.
Warren Sapps a clown he’s not part of “once a Raiders always a Raider.”
