Tom Brady is now a part of the Raiders ownership group, and there is reason to believe he will not be a passive personality in his new role.
We don’t know what that role will look like, but according to former Raiders running back Marcel Reece, who remains very close with majority owner Mark Davis, Brady’s role will be just about anything he wants it to be.
“Mark [Davis] does nothing without a ton of thought involved in it and this was a long time coming. It took a lot of time and effort for this to happen and come to fruition,” Reece said on the additional of Brady to the Raiders’ ownership group.
“I’ll say this,” Reece continued. “I think that Tom is going to be able to be as hands on as Tom wants to. Mark doesn’t want figureheads. He doesn’t need figureheads. What he wants and desires is success… especially right now, even in the immediate… who better to evaluate any quarterback than the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.”
A rumor circulated on Wednesday that Brady is going to try to bring Bill Belichick to the Raiders, and it wouldn’t take a wild imagination to see that happening.
Belichick still has a relationship with Brady, and it’s been rumored that Antonio Pierce wasn’t necessarily Brady’s first choice for the Raiders in last year’s hiring cycle.
For now, every indication is that the Raiders are committed to Pierce and the belief is that Davis is still a fan of his first-year head coach. But as we learned with Davante Adams, storylines can change quickly in the NFL and it’s likely that Brady is looking to leave his mark on the organization a lot sooner than later.
What that means for Pierce and the Raiders’ long-term situation at quarterback remains to be seen.
