Mark Davis Said He Listened to “Four Constituencies” in His Decision to Hire Antonio Pierce

For better or worse, Raiders’ owner Mark Davis is known to involve a lot of outside help when it comes to his decisions on the team.

His inner circle of advisors has been discussed at length over the last few months, but in an interview this week Davis acknowledged that former players and the fan base also weighed into his decision to hire Antonio Pierce.

“I have four constituencies that I listen to,” Davis told Logan Reever of 8 News Now. “One is the alumni, the Raider alumni, then it’s the players that are playing, then it’s the Raider Nation and the fan base. Then it’s the building. The Raiders’ building and the people that work in there.”

Logan Reever on Twitter: “1-ON-1: Caught up with #Raiders owner Mark Davis here at #SuperBowl Opening Night (in the nightclub-like lighting)We talked how close this team is from a Super Bowl, the hiring of Antonio Pierce, and the importance of diversity within the organization. #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/w0BpDJ7Rje / Twitter”

Davis talked to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur in December and acknowledged that he felt pressure from the outside to hire Pierce.

“There was a lot of pressure on me from the outside to hire Antonio for the head-coaching job,” Davis said. ”But I think people forget I was the one who hired him in the first place for the interim job. When I interviewed him back then, I got the feeling that he was something special.”

Some have criticized Davis for hiring Pierce before choosing a GM, but the Raiders owner told Reever that it was “unanimous” among his four constituencies that Pierce should get the job.

Notably, one person who didn’t fall into any of the constituencies that Davis mentioned is Tom Brady. It’s no secret that Brady is someone who Davis trusts and will most likely be a minority owner within the organization at some point in the not-too-distant future.

  1. Why would Anyone in their right minds listen to the Fans and/or be pressured by them to Hire a Head Coach. Read the comments of the “Fans” in all of these forums to admire the ignorance…

  2. 64 of my 67+ years have bled Silver and Black, couldn’t stomach the Whiners (yes, at 3) that my family rooted for. I’ve spit bullets at Al, then Mark, but FINALLY!! AGAIN!! I have faith AP is just what the doctor ordered, and Doc n I aren’t alone. It broke my heart to hear the Raider faithless boo my boys off the field after a loss when I was at Allegiant (my first live Raider game and in the Black Hole!!) 11/13/22. BROKE MY HEART. F#ck Cancer, I will make it back to see the boys AND faithful celebrate this year!!

    1. Be prepared for that 4-13 season coming up. This ra ra ra bullsh— doesn’t mean sh— when the losses are piling up

  3. Now comes the hard part since the entire f the past coach mentality will be gone. OL needs overhauled. Obviously QB will be needed to addressed. How will Getsy do, most important question there is. Can P. Graham and Maxx have the defense playing like the end of the year or the first year and half when the defense literally lost games ( poor offensive play calling had a major roll as well). It’s quite telling that Kingsbury couldn’t get a 3rd year in his contract. Kinda feels like this regime will be on a two year time frame. A lot of good could happen or a lot of bad can happen.
