Mark Davis Says the Raiders Will Be There for Henry Ruggs

After hearing the details of Henry Ruggs’ accident and subsequent charges, it was only a matter of hours before the Raiders announced that they were releasing him.

Ruggs has since cleared waivers and no team is expected to show interest in him anytime soon. Given that Ruggs could spend up to 20 years in prison for his DUI resulting in death, there is a chance he’ll never have interest from an NFL team again.

But the Raiders, for their part, say they won’t abandon Ruggs.

“Henry Ruggs is still a human being and Raider alumni and somebody that we want to help,” Raiders’ owner Mark Davis told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We’ll be there for him… [we’re] not going to abandon him. He’s part of our family.”

Ruggs also has a quarterback who still believes in him.

“I will always be here for him,” Derek Carr told members of the media on Wednesday. “That won’t change. I’ll prove that to him. Not to anybody else. But he needs people to love him right now. He’s probably feeling a certain type of way about himself right now and he needs to be loved. If nobody else will do it, I’ll do it.”

With all that being said… Carr and the Raiders have in no way downplayed the horrors of Tuesday morning.

The team and Carr have both expressed deep sorrow for the victim and her family. The Raiders also made a strong statement by releasing Ruggs so quickly.

But it’s also a credit to the organization and the players that they aren’t turning their back on Ruggs.

  1. Have been a raiders fan my whole life. There are no good reasons 2 drink and drive? That said nobody can win in this situation

  2. I didn’t think that this season could or would get worse than Gruden resigning. But God had to show me that it could. Sin City has just claimed it’s first Raiders player. I feel for the Family if the victim. But I feel for that kid. He has to be feeling bad and alone and inconsolable right now. This was not a good idea to move the Raiders to Sin City

    1. 😂 This narrative is so overplayed. He could have done this in any city. Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, and I can go on and on. We shouldn’t sell sports cars either because people are more likely to speed whe given the opportunity.

    2. That may be the dumbest narrative ever. Leonard Little was in St. Louis for his DWI that killed somebody. Donte Stallworth was in Miami for his DUI that killed somebody. The city doesn’t matter, as long as there is alcohol there will be people in cities all over the world that will make bad choices…

    3. Ruggs trouble was being in Las Vegas? Give me a break. Ruggs trouble is that he couldn’t party responsibly. What happened happens in Any Town USA.

  3. It is great. It was unfortunate that someone has died. Yet I am so proud of my organization. That we stand by him. 1st offense. This happened end. Just 9 months ago. Andy Reid son had one. Leonard Little in1998 St Louis Rams. 2 DUI’s last one resulted in a death. He got 2 yrs with probation. Came back had a very good career. This has happened around America. Not just young people. Damon Woody. Many older drunk drivers has taken lives. Ruggs will be hurt by this as will his wife. They took a life. Almost left their child. Pray for all

    1. Inappropriate Jason. Not the time or place to bag on another human trying to make a difference in his friends life. The world would be a better place if it had more Carr’s to help us through the tragedies.

  4. Hey Nation, gals, guys! I want to start by saying that I have never really been a Derek Carr fan. Some of you have read my comments on the man. That all changes now as of this minute!! He has lead this team this year though all the bad we have gone through like a MAN!! My hat is off to him and I will be his biggest fan from this moment forward. What he has said about Jon Gruden and what he is now saying about Henry Ruggs speaks to my heart. I was very very wrong about him as a football player and as a man and I want to admit it. Derek Carr is my main man for life even if he ever leaves the Raiders I will always be a fan of his for life…. Just sayin
