Maxx Crosby Described the Knee Injury that Plagued Him Since Week 2: “I Literally Put My Life on the Line”

Maxx Crosby was a second-team All Pro in 2023, and he is now a finalist for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

But the most impressive detail about the career year that he just turned in is probably the fact that he dominated the league while dealing with a significant knee injury that he suffered all the way back in week 2 of the season.

Crosby opened up about his knee injury this week on The Rush with Maxx Crosby

“My [knee] bursa was destroyed and dismantled. I played 16 straight games with it. I kept landing on it and it kept blowing out, so obviously it got infected at one point. It wasn’t just in my knee. It was going all the way down into my tibia. Surgery ended up being 3 hours when it was supposed to be only an hour and a half. [The surgeon] had to get every little bit of it and cauterize it and close it…

I would have points in the season where the side of my knee was f—- hurting me. I would have pains in the front of my quad and it was because the bursa was just smashed.

My knee will be about 2-3 months before I’m 100 percent. I literally put my life on the line to go out there and play.”

Crosby’s “life on the line” comment goes back to a stretch in November where he was hospitalized with a serious infection that stemmed from a “smashed” bursa. He somehow managed to play 49 snaps against the Chiefs that week and recorded a sack.

The details of Crosby’s knee injury were explained in a diagram on Twitter X’s @Medspiration
