Michael Lombardi Takes Aim at Raiders Yet Again

There is a lot going on with the Raiders right now.

Antonio Pierce is making headlines with his statements from the podium, Davante Adams wants a trade, and it was announced on Thursday that Pierce was hit with an eight-year show-cause order on account of violations that occurred when he was an assistant coach at Arizona State.

If there was ever a time to pile on the Raiders, the fruit is hanging low right now.

To the surprise of no one, Michael Lombardi answered the call this week. The notorious Lombardi appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and introduced a new theory on the Raiders, and it might be his most baseless and unresearched opinion yet.

“Maxx Crosby didn’t go to the game on Sunday with a hamstring,” Lombardi told McAfee on Thursday. “That, to me, bothers me. That tells me there’s something going on in that locker room.”

While it’s true that Crosby was told to stay home and continue rehabbing on Sunday, he is not dealing with a hamstring injury. Furthermore, anyone objectively analyzing the Raiders would understand that Crosby is the least of the team’s concerns in terms of the culture within the locker room.

In fact, by many accounts the locker room is as galvanized as it’s been in a long time.

NFL on ESPN on X (formerly Twitter): “.@MLombardiNFL believes there is a “disconnect” between Antonio Pierce and the Raiders stars 😳 “I think Crosby has always been the team guy, but when he doesn’t show up to a game that tells me something without knowing something.” pic.twitter.com/HxxJ6s1EJ6 / X”

After questioning Crosby’s commitment to the Piece, Lombardi compared Pierce to a substitute teacher.

“Antonio Pierce has taken over. He was the interim coach,” Lombardi said. “When you are the substitute teacher, it’s a lot easier to get the students to listen and behave and do all those things. When you become the full-time teacher all of a sudden, you have to change your personality.”

First thought on those comments…

What school did Lombardi go to where the kids listened to the substitute teacher?

Secondly, it actually feels like Pierce is sticking with the principles that got him the full-time job in the first place.

Pierce didn’t back down from holding Marcus Peters to the standard a year ago, and it seems like he is doing the same this year with Jack Jones and, possibly, Davante Adams.

Things might eventually go sideways for Pierce and the Raiders, but Lombardi missed the mark pretty badly with this week’s assessment. Everyone knew there was a good chance Adams would request a trade if the season didn’t start out swimmingly, and sometime after the Panthers game that’s exactly what he did.

  1. Though Lombardi is knowledgeable about front office football, once again Lombardi displays his juvenile ” residual bad blood’, “chip on shoulder” sentiment towards the raiders organization since he and his son were released by them at different point s in time. No so called “professional” should manifest his true underlying personal vendetta sentiments peculiar to his own or his family’s experiences when asked to comment on a business situation.

    1. Well when your a has been and your soon is cut from the same cloth it’s sad you go around cutting down a team that gave you a chance in the past even though you didn’t deserve it nice payback for the favor sad little men they r

  2. As Always – Mike Lombardi is a Buffoon and a Fraud. Rare to Find a Bigger Clown… His ONLY Claim to Fame is that Al Davis Kept him in the Building because both Al and the Coaches Loved to Laugh and Joke about how to Stupid Mike was. Lombardi was one of the Few Funny things in the Raiders Facility. He was a Joke then and a Bigger Joke Now…

  3. There are so many Lombardi’s I can’t keep up. Are any still with Raiders? Are they all fools like this one? This isn’t the former Raider GM is it?

  4. Mike continues to have an axe to grind with the team since his dismissal, years ago. However, it does appear that the team did not do a thorough background check on AP. First, his bankruptcy issue and now the NCAA violation. This isn’t good news for the team, nor the HC that many can argue was under qualified for the job. Now, we’re left to wonder what other skeletons are going to come out from AP’s closet??!!

  5. A protected father who is butt hurt after his sons got fired also. So like Father like Sons. 😅🤣😂

  6. This guy always has some type of negative assessment of the Raiders. Ever since he was called out by Art Shell. He was bitter over his son getting let go and so on and so on. He will always get run because sports journalists like to get the – on the Raiders True they give u ammo for it but this guys dotes on it

  7. Mike Lombardi is a buffoon that can’t hold a job in the NFL. Questioning Maxx Crosby’s motivation, and then saying a master technician is what you need to be an NFL coach. Two of the worst moves that hurt the Raiders the most were made by Josh McDaniels and co (master technician) Anyone remember cutting Derek Carr and signing Jimmy G. Even I could see that was a disaster. Gawd just go back in your hole you possum.
