Khalil Mack and the Raiders remain at an impasse on a new deal, but good news for both sides might be around the corner. According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, a deal between the Rams and Aaron Donald is expected to happen this week.
Some believe the Raiders and Mack are waiting to see what Donald gets before a deal happens, but ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio sees no connection between the two and doesn’t believe the Donald’s deal is holding up negotiations with Mack. Florio’s theory is that since the Raiders and Mack’s agent haven’t been in active discussions, the sides are nowhere close.
Well, they may not be “close” in terms of agreeing on Mack’s monetary value, but there is a good chance that both sides simply have different valuations based on the current market – which hasn’t been set since the Von Miller deal in 2016. If Donald signs, there would be a deal for both sides to build around and for all anyone knows, there may have been progress made months ago on Mack’s deal and once the market is set, there won’t be that much left to negotiate.
There’s also a report that the Raiders aren’t willing to negotiate with Mack until he returns to the team – which could be another reason conversations are at a stalemate.
The idea of a trade seems to be off the table, so Mack’s situation has apparently boiled down to one of two scenarios. Either 1) the Raiders don’t want to pay Mack right now and want to push a new deal back another year or 2) the sides don’t agree on his value and are willing to wait and see what the market looks like after Donald signs.
For what it’s worth, every whisper floating around these parts is that the Raiders do want to get an extension done before the season. If Donald signs and that still doesn’t happen, then it would become clear the Raiders actually don’t want a new deal. And if that’s the case, come to your own conclusions as to why they wouldn’t.

Nicely done!
Yes. RM will not even negotiate until Mack is in camp. He’s just like that. Pray Donald signs–then Mack returns to camp with an agreed value. It’ll get done before preseason game 4. He won’t get injured and PG will have him ready.
Good news for the Raiders would have been excepting his $22 million a year contract Mack was seeking. Now that Aaron Donald got 24 million a year the Raiders just look stupid. Expect that price tag to increased to about 25 million

Yeah I’ve been saying the Raider are waiting to see what happens with Donald. They want to pay Mack and make him the highest paid defensive play. Reg has been preparing for this ever since Carr signed his deal. Everybody….relax. Mack will be at DE when we open up against the Rams. Bet money on it
