Going into the final four games of the season, it has become clear that Pete Carroll’s job is on the line and according to one team insider, it isn’t looking like Carroll will be coaching the Raiders beyond this year.
Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter talked about the dysfunction in the Raider organization after Sunday’s loss to the Broncos, and he suggested there might be only one person who can save Carroll’s job at this point.
“I think Pete is facing an upward battle to return to the Raiders,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“If I was forced to bet today, and I don’t bet on the game of football, but I’m here in Vegas, so that analogy fits, I would tell you that I just I don’t see a scenario. I, the only scenario that I believe in which Pete Carroll could keep his job is if he was able to talk Mark Davis and to sell Mark Davis on it. That being said, I just don’t see it happening.”
Applying some logic to Carpenter’s comments, it sounds like there is a message coming from somewhere that Tom Brady and GM John Spytek are ready to move on from Carroll.
Davis has made an effort to remove himself from the football decisions since Brady was brought aboard, and that is presumably the reason Carpenter said he doesn’t see Davis stepping in to save Carroll’s job.
Carroll hasn’t lived up to expectations in his first year with the Raiders, but there is clearly dysfunction going on behind the scenes and it could be difficult to lure a top coaching candidate to Las Vegas if Carroll is forced out after one season.
And applying a little more logic… if Carroll is fired, it sounds like the curtain is going to be pulled back a little more on what has been going on behind the scenes in Las Vegas, and what the power structure really looks like in the building since Brady was added to the mix.

I know Vinny B is a shill but at least he has some inside information.
Hondo just talks out of his arse & claims he has sources
Hondo is all about clicks and scrolling through his ads for nothing but his idiot thoughts.
This team needs to show stability. Coaches getting fired at the rate a 7/11 goes through clerks is not great. Playing your home games in front of your opponents fans each week is not great. No coach worth having will want this job. Davis has to overpay, because he’s compensating for an embarrassing organization he runs.
Nothing can nor should anything save him. Especially if he starts Geno next Sunday. That should be the final straw and nail in both their boxes.
Speaking of boxes, that tool podcast Dave coming unhinged after the game is the reason I don’t bet on sports. His own fault.
Totally agree that if Pete starts Geno he should be fired. As everyone has been saying, at least Pickett can run around back there and give us a chance. That was amply proven in the Broncos game. What if Pickett had played the whole game? What if Pickett was the starter after week four or five? It’s just infuriating to watch this train wreck and know that there are answers but nothing is tried. Utter failure is repeating the same mistakes again and again.
Already tired of hearing Carroll’s post game “I’m really surprised” rant. It’s getting old, like Carr’s “put the blame on me” rant after losses.😂
That’s another name I could do without hearing for the rest of my life.
It’s Time to say goodbye to Carol and his coaching staff bring in a young coach like Shula and just think we are just 3 losses away from having the overall number one pick and his name is Fernando Mendoza QB from Indiana Hoosiers
All of you wanting the first pick in the draft and a quarterback, it doesn’t matter who you put under center where you have no line to protect him. Put a rookie under center with this line and you ruined his career and half a season. Trade back, maybe twice, and draft to build the offensive line. And then the defensive line. Let picket run the thing next year. Half *** rebuild equals failure.that’s been proven countless times. Look at every team with success and a rookie Q. They rebuilt the offensive line 1st.
Well said, Greg, well said.
