Raiders Insider States Who He Believes Will Make Final Decision on Pete Carroll

There aren’t many coaches in the NFL sitting more squarely on the hot seat than Pete Carroll, but will the Raiders have the nerve to pull the plug on a future Hall of Fame head coach after just one season?

There have been a few indicators that Carroll probably won’t be back in Las Vegas next year, but according to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, there is one dynamic to the situation that makes the outcome difficult to predict.

“I still think the decision maker is not going to be Tom Brady. The decision player is not going to be John Spytek. It is going to be Mark Davis,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“If I had to guess today, and it’s an educated guess, I think that there will be a significant amount of people in Mark’s ear saying, ‘Let’s move on from Pete’ and it’s going to be interesting to watch how this goes. It’s a complete crapshoot.”

Reading between the lines a little, it sounds like Spytek and Brady would probably like to be done with the Carroll experiment when the season is over, and no one knows what Davis is thinking.

From the start of the season, it has felt like Carroll and the personnel department haven’t always been on the same page, and now that the organization is moving toward a total roster rebuild, some have questioned whether a 74-year-old head coach makes the most sense for the team.

It has been rumored that the Raiders would like to pursue a “negotiated resolution” to Carroll’s contract, but according to Carpenter, Carroll has no plans of retiring or reaching a “buyout” of any kind with the organization.

A report earlier in the year stated that Carroll and the Raiders agreed to a three-year, $45 million in January, but that number has not been confirmed.

  1. Who is going want the job over Pete the team and whole organization is a big mess now al wood be less than pleased unless this was the plan at the start so get another year and get to see what transpires nt year going get better but will take time go raiders

    1. After we win the final 2 games he’s coming back, with Brennan & Geno….and you know why? Cuz nobody is gonna come here when we draft #7 & have a crap organization. At least we will be the odds on favorite for 2027 #1 overall pick.

  2. Isn’t Brady the reason we have Carroll to begin with? Isn’t he the reason we have Spytek for a GM?

    1. Yes and let’s remember that Hondo said his “sources” in Detroit told him we dodged a bullet with Ben Johnson

    1. The Queefs are purposely tanking. I still think the Giants can take us but i have a horrible feeling they’re gonna win out
