Raiders Insider Offers Surprise No. 2 QB Prospect in the 2025 Draft

Is it too early to start talking about the Raiders quarterback options in the draft?

While all eyes are on Ben Johnson and the rumors around his coaching candidacy, the other big decision facing the Raiders in the months ahead is the matter of their quarterback situation.

As it stands in January, the Raiders are looking like a good bet to take a quarterback in the draft, and Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter shared an interesting draft evaluation on his podcast this weekend.

Carpenter said he talked to executives in two different organizations (neither being the Raiders) and came away with quarterback evaluations that might come as a surprise.

“[One executive] said his organization has Cam Ward as the no. 1 quarterback in this class,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “He also said Cam Ward is the only quarterback that they have with a first round grade.”

Hondo said the second quarterback on the aforementioned team’s draft board was University of Mississippi QB Jaxson Dart, who was given a second-round grade by the team.

The other team Hondo sourced had a similar grade on Ward and also ranked Dart ahead of a certain quarterback from the University of Colorado.

”They had Cam Ward clearly as no. 1, as well, and they also had Jaxson Dart as the second-best quarterback in this draft… they had [Dart] as a low 23 to 32 range in the first round,” Hondo said.

The obvious omission from both draft boards was Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who for the last few months has been discussed as a potential no. 1 overall pick.

Shedeur isn’t a perfect prospect, but if he falls to the no. 6 pick in the draft, it’s hard to imagine the Raiders wouldn’t consider taking him.

And surely they wouldn’t take Dart ahead of Shedeur… or would they?

For better or worse, we still have still have three months until the draft and the polarizing draft takes around this year’s quarterback class are just getting started.

  1. I think the raiders should draft a qb. With that being said, they should try and get JJ McCarthy and if they can’t get him, how about Teddy Bridgewater from Detroit. He is an unrestricted free agent. He is better then anybody we have now.

    1. McCarthy comes from a run-first system, so he’s a gamble and not worth anywhere close to the asking price that’s being thrown out there. Forget the Harbaugh hype. Just think, Would the Broncos have traded a rookie John Elway? Of course not! If he’s the real thing, no way the Vikings trade him.

    2. watch the QB school on Youtube, Aiden is better than half the QBs playing right now!
way way better than Teddy! You clearly only listen to wack media talking heads. They are only there for drama. “insiders” or “sources” is just another way they get away with making crap up.

  2. Leave it to the Raiders they’ll sit and do nothing and mess up. I love my Raiders they sit to much instead of being aggressive.

  3. I’m beginning to think Sanders will be there at the 6 spot. It depends on the kind of offense we’re running, but maybe Dart or Milroe in the second or third round is a better play. I’m not convinced any of the three is a day one starter, and I certainly think the 6th overall pick should be a starter game one, whatever position he plays.

    1. Agreed. I like the idea of getting a great first round quarterback but with the way our line was blocking this season I don’t think even Brady could succeed behind them. Some line help and a free agent veteran QB plus a 2nd round flyer on QB has better chance at success than throwing a 1st round QB (Sanders or otherwise) into the fire.

  4. Dart over Sanders, to pass on Dart could be a resk, to many teams are becoming a ware of him, take the 6th pick and get the best player for a need RB,OL, or defense, and maybe trade back into the first round to get Dart if his stock rise up and a lot of teams are looking at him, with a new GM, new HC like Ben Johnson and TB and all on the same page and build a fast offense, Speed guys, use AOC as a bridge or Hoker

  5. The Raiders need a quality running back. They had the worst running game in the league. Go with O’Connell again. He threw for over 300 yards against Kansas City. The defense was on the field too much because of three and outs. They must improve the running game to be competitive. The offensive line must also improve.

  6. I think Johnson could greatly improve O’Connell’s play. Like he did with Goff. But, the OL must improve or no QB or RB will succeed. Maybe late Milroe or Dart in the 3rd or late 2nd round.

  7. John? Why not milroe? He is a dual threat qb with a big arm and legs worth 10x that. You cannot teach 4.3 speed. Yah, look at Herbert, great arm almost perfection but he can’t run. Ward or Milroe is my pick. I say be safe and pick Geanty at 6 then move back in to the bottom of round 1 and get Milroe. You just screwed the Donkeys and Boyz not getting Geanty.

  8. Hey Dutch Boy, Brady the goat messed up. He only only owns 5% of the Raiders. Show him who has kahoonas and do the right thing. Welcome home Chucky!

  9. Keep O’Connell see if can pick Zach Wilson & Mac Jones b/c the jets ruin QBs & Jones wasn’t that bad their better than the alternatives then figure out what to do with the # 6 pick WR,OT,QB maybe they can get Sam Darnold they have to get creative
