Raiders Insider Suggests Klint Kubiak has Held Up 2nd Interview in Vegas

Has Klint Kubiak removed himself from the Raiders’ search for a head coach?

That hasn’t been reported, but reading between the lines in the last 24 hours, it sounds like the hangup between the Raiders and Kubiak isn’t coming from the team.

On Tuesday morning, the California Post’s Vinny Bonsignore said on the Raiders’ flagship radio station that he is close to removing Kubiak as a candidate for the Raiders’ job.

“Klint Kubiak has not come in for a second interview. Unless we hear at some point that he’s agreed to come in here for a second interview, I think for right now you almost have to remove him from consideration,” Bonsignore said on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate.

“It sounds like [Kubiak] is going to stay in Seattle and that’s a great decision for him and it will make him even more marketable… I feel like it’s a two-horse race at this point and my own opinion on this is that one is an extremely easy and positive sell in Davis Webb with the fan base and I think the fans [would] get behind him…”

Later in the day, Bonsignore seemed to suggest Kubiak is the one choosing against a second interview with the Raiders.

“He’s free to come in for a second interview,” Bonsignore tweeted shortly after saying the Kubiak still hasn’t confirmed a second interview with the Raiders.

Based on everything Bonsignore put out on Monday morning, it sounds like Kubiak has lost interest in the Raiders’ job or at the very least isn’t interested in having a second interview – which would appear to be an ominous sign.

Kubiak was once considered the favorite to be the Raiders next head coach, and now there are well-connected insiders (if you include what ESPN’s Adam Schefter said this week) giving the impression Kubiak isn’t enamored with the head coaching vacancy in Las Vegas.

There is still time for the narrative to change, but for now it sounds like Webb and Brian Daboll are the front runners to be the Raiders’ next head coach.
