Raiders May Have to Consider Deal for Calvin Ridley, Who is Reportedly Looking For “Fresh Start” From Falcons

The Raiders will be hunting for a playmaker at wide receiver in the offseason and they might have to sniff around another product of the University of Alabama.

According to a report on Wednesday, Calvin Ridley’s time with the Falcons could be coming to an end as both sides are apparently looking for a “fresh start.”

G.T Bobby Thompson on Twitter: “It is being reported that #Falcons WR Calvin Ridley’s future with the team could be coming to an end as both sides may be looking for a fresh start. If that is the case, his market will be robust / Twitter”

Ridley played in only five games for the Falcons this year before leaving the team for personal reasons.

This was the last message Ridley posted on Twitter and there is still some mystery as to why he stepped away from the team halfway through the season.

Ridley tallied 90 receptions for 1,374 yards in 2020 and he just turned 27 in December.

Depending on what is going on with him, it would make sense that the Raiders would be interested in trading for Ridley. They need a dynamic wide receiver to fill the void left by Henry Ruggs and Ridley is considered by most to be among the top 10-15 wide receivers in the league.

The Raiders have to roll the dice on someone in the offseason. Maybe they’ll go back to the well at Alabama one more time.

  1. A player with this kind of history can be a diamond in the rough. Or, you can end up with another Antonio Brown situation. The receivers position coach is the person who must be responsible for this situation to succeed. If you look at this position coach’s success with the wideouts. It may be a tall order. The more the merrier, unless you end up with a few unhappy receivers on the same team. It’s going to be an expensive test. I hope it works if it is the way the Raiders decide to go.

    1. I’m curious what kind of history you are talking about? From all the reports I’ve read, he was dealing with some mental health issues and needed some time away from the game. I see no similarities between him and AB.

      1. I’m curious what draft compensation would ATL ask for?

Raiders would need to do some home work and have a plan B if you do trade for Ridley.

      2. Really? Someone with mental health issues and AB…you see no similarities huh?
        Get serious

    2. How are you going to group Ridley with AB? There situations are totally different. Ridley hasn’t done anything stupid since he’s been in the league. AB does dumb stuff on a monthly basis. Ridley has admitted having a mental health issue and is having it treated. AB is making rap tunes. Lol

  2. ROLL TIDE!!! If he is ready to commit himself, he is certainly a dynamic playmaker in an area that the Raiders certainly need him in!!!

  3. I agree with Tyron, As soon as I read the article and his tweet I thought of AB. Tons of talent and a complete screwball. I would want him to undergo lots of psyche testing to see if he is capable of holding it together. Vegas isnt a great place for folks of weak minds. Id take a hard pass. We’ve given up multiple fairly nice picks for guys that never played much if at all. Better do some deep do diligence first.

  4. I would draft a wr there are alot of good wr in next years draft. I luck pittsburg top wr if u watch him play. He is a gamer and clutch in big games. He get better when game is on the line.

  5. For God’s sakes stay away from those **** Bama players…They all turn out to be busts… Not one has panned out! Not one!!! Best players on the team are from smaller schools…You can’t evaluate talent from that team .. They are so much bigger and stronger than most college teams that it’s just impossible to evaluate them…Stay the Hell away from them!!!

  6. Let’s face it Nation, this is exactly the type of player that we’ve always gone for: the guy with the run-ins with the law, the guys who have attitude problems and the guys who just don’t play well with others! Lol I agree it’s an absolute roll of the dice. Is it worth it to give a guy like Ridley a shot? Well, he’s away from the game right now ‘focusing on his mental health’. Anyone else see the red flags?

  7. I wouldn’t not waste anytime with this dude mental issues whatever dude wanted out of Atlanta so he took the mental route. Bye FELICIA👈

  8. With these issues, there’s too much of a chance that this guy doesn’t work out. They should only make a deal if it comes cheap, like 5th round pick or lower. The team has already squandered too many draft picks.
