Raiders Might Have Little Choice But to Name Rich Bisaccia Head Coach After the Season

The Raiders have a lot of big decisions coming in the months ahead. In the past few months, team owner Mark Davis has collected resignations from the organization’s president, CFO, and a head coach who had authority over just about every football-related decision in the building.

The storyline that everyone is watching, though, is the status of interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. The Raiders have been winning since Bisaccia took over, but there are a few other factors that make him the heavy favorite to be officially named head coach after the season.

The players love Bisaccia.

Derek Carr said as much after last week’s game.

“We would love for him to still be our head coach for the future,” Carr said of Bisaccia after the Raiders win over the Eagles.

The key word “we” would indicate the locker room is most likely agreement with Carr. There will be a push from the players to keep Bisaccia after the season.

FOX Sports: NFL on Twitter: “”He has the ear of the locker room. He has the pulse, he has the heart beat and he’s our leader…We would love for him to still be our head coach for the future.”- Derek Carr to @lindsayczarniak on coach Rich Bisaccia after the @Raiders win today pic.twitter.com/Vr1NeNuS1v / Twitter”

A new head coach would presumably mean new assistant coaches.

What coaching candidate would take the Raiders job without bringing his own coordinators?

Gus Bradley is the best defensive coordinator the Raiders have hired in decades and it would be crazy to introduce a new offensive scheme next year. Carr spent more than three years learning Jon Gruden’s offense and he looks more comfortable now than at any point in his career.

There’s no way Carr wants to flip the coaching staff and he’ll probably have a little say in the matter because the Raiders are going to have to pay him a lot of money soon.

The organization needs continuity.

With all the questions remaining at the executive level, Davis has to be looking for any excuse to keep his general manager and coaching staff together for at least another year.

It’s also not cheap to fire and hire a new staff.

Usually, the “risky” decision would be to extend an interim coach, but the Raiders situation is different. Gruden didn’t leave the organization because the team wasn’t playing well and the team has only gained momentum since his departure.

Gruden definitely jump-started Carr’s career and gave the Raiders an effective offensive scheme, but is the team better on Sunday’s without Gruden on the sideline?

So far, the team does seem to play better for Bisaccia and if that doesn’t change dramatically in the next two months, he’s a virtual lock to have the “interim” title removed from his job title.

  1. Don’t make hasty decisions. There are 10 more regular season games to observe how Bisaccia performs. So far, looks good. At seasons end, he can be signed if both he and Mayock and Mark are aligned. I’m hoping for continuity. Mayock may be a genius at assessing College talent and free agents. Gus Bradly has greatly improved a very sorry defense and given more time will likely continue on that trajectory. Greg Olson may well put old Chucky to shame when designing game plans and calling plays. Losing year after year has become so tiring, so let’s get this right.
    Just win baby!!

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more, it’s a long way to go. Let’s see how the season and the players perform before we talk about any changes or long term signing. I have seen many coaches that the players loved get fired because of performance or lack of.

    2. If coach “B”keeps improving this team and get us to playoff’s at minimum we need to move on hire a coach that is with the time

      1. I kind of disagree with you on that one you don’t just go around hiring a new coat after the interim coach one you 10 games or more possibly you are to keep that same system as and skin in place I think he deserves a shot if he takes this team to the playoffs why not why couldn’t he be the next coach for the Las Vegas Raiders

    3. Derek Carr makes Olson look like he deserves this credit that your talking about! Lol… Derek Carr is the mind behind this offense.

    1. I Concur! Why disrupt Unity and how much will it cost with the need to fill Mtg that resigned or finalizing Gruden’s payment! We have rest of season for a better assessment and need!

  2. Besides all that’s is happening, I think Rich Bissaccia is best fit now and in the future and should keep him on! there’s a connection with him and the team!,
I VOTE FOR RICH BISSACCIA FOR HEAD COACH!!!!
P.S stop changing coach’s it messes up the flow!

    1. Concur, and think the best for the Team and this includes our GM! Just identify and better define their Responsibilities and the Chain of Command and Roles!

  3. Hey Nation, gals, guys, I think it would be foolish to change anything after the season and go a whole new direction. Mr Bisaccia deserves a chance to see what he can do as a head coach in this league. By God he sure has waited long enough for the opportunity. Everyone knows he didn’t want it the way he got it but sometimes being in the right place at the right time is worth it’s weight in gold!! We finally have a Defense worthy of being Raiders so let’s let things be and see what happens. I think Mayock should remain GM but should get help selecting first and second Rd players because he’s proven to not be good at that. But he sure as heck is good at later Rd selections. He got Renfrow, Mullins, Crosby, Hobbs, Edwards and a few others so later Rd selections he is good at.

  4. 1st “head coach who had authority over just about every football-related decision in the building. ” fails to relay truth as Gruden had complete control over everything relating to Team.

2nd Gruden may not have left team because of their play the truth is he should have been shown the door prior to season and appeared to be heading for another season like prior ones. This team still has major issues left by Gruden that will probably prevent team from being true contenders.

3rd keep GM – hello, the real GM left because it was Gruden so Davis if he were smart (but that is not the case or Gruden wouldnt be here in first place) he would bring in a new GM someone that has history actually doing that job as Mayock was GM on paper only.

If team finishes season strong and makes playoffs I would allow coaches to remain. If the team fails to make playoffs then new coaches need to come in as it would be indicator that Grudens footprints remain. And season would attach to Gruden so clean slate would be needed.

However, Davis still wants his man-crush infatuation there and is mad the NFL made his crush leave. Davis would not remove Gruden no matter how bad of coach he is and make no mistake Gruden was at best (loosely) he was subpar mediocre unable to effectively lead men and take over team successfully.

    1. I agree. I’m a chiefs and I watched Bassiccia’s pressers and I was impressed. Culture matters, and he seems to be a good man

  5. I agree I like coach Goldberg. But it has only been 2 games. I can say that the players seem more relaxed which is why I’m hoping we can keep Clelin Ferrell maybe a new coach and more calmer relaxed atmosphere could do him some good. But, its 2 games folks, WE HAVE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

  6. I completely agree! Las Vegas wasn’t a team playing out the string during a bad season when Gruden resigned (in shame I may add) offense was playing well minus the Bears game and the defense has been solid from the start! The Raiders will make the playoffs one way or another and breaking up this staff would be a very dumb move for Davis! Players
like Bisaccia, the fan base seems to like Bisaccia, although a losing streak would turn the fickle Nation on him in a heart beat, but the continuity is the important thing here! Rich Bisaccia for Head Coach 2022!!!!

  7. I say keep Bisaccia and ‘most’ of the assistant coaches… but not all of them. Also, I say that it is time for Mark Davis to start being his dad and hiring the team President that will flip the apple carts…. YEP, I’d hire John Gruden as my Team President – ignore the WOKE – ignore the fake rage – ignore the Raider Haters. Mr. Gruden is NOT a racist nor anything else that the fake press has labeled him. Fake News is going to lie, haters are going to hate and snowflakes are going to flake…. THAT is what Sheeple do.

    1. Trumper….pathetic. I love the Raiders and really liked Gruden but he lost the locker room with the man he revealed himself to be. Besides he was great at designing plays but too inflexible calling the game-IMO they will be better off without him. Keep Bisaccia

  8. I’ve been a Raiders fan since the team played what’s now Laney College (Frank Youll Field) This team excites me since the 2002 team I don’t care what city they play in LOYAL TO THE BRAND

  9. If coach “B”keeps improving this team and get us to playoff’s at minimum we need to move on hire a coach that is with the time

  10. Gruden was a .500 coach. He should have been let go after having our guys not score a TD to use time and lost that game. Team seems to be responding. Let it ride. Let’s go Raiders!

  11. Thanks for the something totally new you have uncovered in your writing. One thing I’d prefer to touch upon is that FSBO interactions are built after a while. By bringing out yourself to the owners the first saturday and sunday their FSBO is actually announced, prior to the masses start out calling on Monday, you make a good link. By giving them instruments, educational components, free reviews, and forms, you become an ally. Through a personal interest in them as well as their problem, you generate a solid interconnection that, on many occasions, pays off in the event the owners decide to go with an adviser they know in addition to trust — preferably you.
