Raiders’ OC Says Offense is Getting “A Little Better” Every Week

Luke Getsy isn’t the most popular coach among Raider fans, and his answers at Thursday’s press conference probably won’t go a long way to raising his approval rating.

Responding to a question about how to fix the offense this far into the season, Getsy said he believes the improvement is already there.

“I think the inconsistencies [on offense] are dissipating. I really do,” Getsy told members of the media at Thursday’s press conference.

“I think every week it just gets a little better and better,” Getsy continued. “I think the mindset, the understanding of what the objective is, is getting clearer each and every week, and running the football alleviates a lot of those issues. Whether you’re trying to spread it around or live we’re having the issue with turning the ball over, all of that goes into play and I think that’s a part of it, and I think you just have to believe in what you’re doing, stick with the plan, keep driving the objective of major sure all 11 on the field are on the same page all the time and that’s really the answer.”

There are a lot of factors to why the Raiders are struggling on offense, but it’s going to be tough to convince Raider fans that the offense has been getting better on a weekly basis.

At the very least, the team’s quarterback play has gotten worse in recent weeks and if the quarterback position isn’t playing well, it’s hard to win in the NFL.

When asked on Wednesday what was wrong with the Raider offense, head coach Antonio Pierce seemed to primarily point to the players.

“Penalties, turnovers and execution. Let’s just start there,” Pierce said.

“Detailed work, it’s easy, right?” he continued. “If we go zone right, everybody needs to go to the right. We can’t have guys going different directions. We got to be clean on that part. Each and every game you go into the game, and you feel confident about what the staff is able to do. And I have felt that. At the end of the day, we have to execute as players, we got to call out the right plays at the right time, and when all that’s going on, if the play breaks down it’s up to the guys on the field to make it right. That’s what this game always comes down to as players and coaches putting them in positions to make plays.”

Looking ahead, Getsy and the offense don’t have a lot of relief in sight. The Raiders host the Chiefs this week and travel to the Bengals after that. From there, the Raiders have a bye week before facing the Dolphins in Miami in week 11.

For anyone already looking ahead to the offseason, the Raiders’ matchup with the 2-4 Dolphins could end up having significant implications when draft season rolls around in April.

  1. I’m trying to figure something out. When did the Raiders start getting better. We not winning. What team are you talking about. I don’t see it. The offense stinks. Worse than last year. The halfway point is here. Somebody getting ready to get fired if the offense doesn’t start producing.

  2. “I think every week it just gets a little better and better.” Earth to Getsy-put the pipe down and the shot glass away.
