Raiders Reportedly Want Bruce Irvin To Take A Pay Cut

It was a tale of two seasons for Bruce Irvin in 2017.

The first half of the season, he looked like a player who would surely be cut after the season, but after closing out the year with six sacks in the Raiders final eight games, Irvin suddenly felt like a bargain with his $8.25 million cap number in 2018.

Nevertheless, Irvin’s name has been brought up more than once as a candidate to be released and the latest on Irvin comes from The Athletic’s John Middlekauff, who says the Raiders would like the 30 year-old linebacker to take a pay cut.

I’ve heard the new staff likes him, they just want him to take a pay cut. He’s scheduled to make $8.25 million in 2018 and I’m sure the Raiders would like that number to get somewhere closer to the $5 million range. Irvin can take the pay cut or bet the free-agent market will pay more if he is released. No team is trading for that contract, so he really only has those two options…”

Obviously, Irvin is aware that something is up or this tweet wouldn’t have been fired from his twitter deck on Thursday…

  1. I’m sure “Big Reg” can work something out to make all happy, if they want to. Irvin only plays in spurts. Should be WAY more consistent with Khalil on the other side. Never really sold on Irvin. Played on good defenses and cried when Norton got tossed. Then all of a sudden, played his butt off. Go figure.

  2. the guy isn’t worth 8 million hell the article says pay bruce 5 million a year and i still that is over paying for him.

his production isn’t there and his age is against him

    as far as his “leadership”

team leaders also don’t sit out practices and take days off b/c they are butt hurt about their butt buddy coach getting fired who in all truth should have never been hired in the first place.(KNJ)

let him go if he refuses the pay cut

the guy is worth about 4 million a year (2 years preferable 3 years tops). you can offer some bonuses if he meets certain performance goals. ie: extra $150,000 if he gets 6 sacks on the year, $50,000 if he plays all 16 games.
