Reggie McKenzie Acknowledged “Communication” Wasn’t Great With Del Rio’s Staff

It wasn’t just the players that grew weary of Jack Del Rio and some members of his coaching staff.

Speaking to writers in Orlando on Tuesday, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie confirmed that communication wasn’t always great between himself and Del Rio’s staff.

While their “communication” wasn’t reported on during the season, it is known that some among Del Rio’s staff became frustrated with McKenzie from a personnel standpoint.

Cornerback and linebacker were positions that caused the most friction, according to sources.

Del Rio spoke publicly on the Raiders depth at linebacker and started a rookie safety at cornerback against Tom Brady and the Patriots.

NaVorro Bowman showed up mid-season to boost the Raiders linebacker group and the cornerback position never really came together until Sean Smith turned his season around in the second half of the year.

  1. Reggie has to own the staffing of LB. We were screwed anyway even if we picked Foster given his off-season incident. Still would have been the right pick all things being equal. Reggie’s flaw in picking players is that he goes with “ceiling and value “ in rounds where starters are supposed to be found. That same value high ceiling approach works in the later rounds. No one cares that you reached for a 5th rounder a round too high, or if that player never develops. It’s pretty obvious if you reach and fail in the top 3. Keith McGill flopping as a 4th rounder isn’t triggering NATION. Watson, Ward, Hayden, even MEJ to a certain extent…. now that will have fools triggered.

  2. Norton was a tool, Del Rio was a fool for letting him be a tool! Too little too late! Downing had to go as well, WTH were they thinking when they let Musgrave go? Good thimg Gruden has the POWER now!
