Report: Amari Cooper To Seek New Deal After The Season, Wants To Be Among Highest Paid WRs

It was a surprise to some to see the Raiders are exploring trade options for Amari Cooper, who still has a year and a half remaining on his rookie contract. Cooper is just 24 and is obviously not lacking for ability.

Cooper, you may already be aware, had a down year in 2017 and is on his way to another unremarkable season in 2018, but according to a Yahoo report this week, Cooper, like Khalil Mack, is expected to want a new deal before the fifth year of his rookie deal. The deal Cooper is seeking, according to the same report, would put him among the highest-paid receivers in football.

“As one league source framed it Sunday, if the Raiders were open to dealing the best player on their roster – Mack – anyone outside of Carr is subject to being moved,” Charles Robinson reported this week. “Especially if a player is coming up for a contract extension and doesn’t appear to be worth the kind of money he’ll seek. Which would explain the “pocket listed” availability of [Amari] Cooper, who, despite having an up-and-down season, is expected to seek a massive contract extension this offseason. One that undoubtedly puts him in the realm of the league’s highest-paid wide receivers – a bracket that sits somewhere between $15 million-$18 million per season.”

Coincidentally, Cooper shares the same agent as Khalil Mack and his contract status entering the offseason is exactly the same as what Mack’s was a year ago.

If Cooper’s approach to getting a new deal will be anything like Mack’s, Jon Gruden already knows the drill. No phone calls. No organized team activities. And a lengthy holdout that might just extend into the regular season.

So maybe that’s why Gruden is considering his trade options for Cooper here in the third week of October.

  1. I think it ridiculous if cooper expects 2 receive top dollar receiver money. unlike mack cooper cannot make argument that he should b top tier paid wr. cooper can go on down the road cuz he is not worth top $ n is not a #1 receiver now or in past n unless he stops being consistent at the 1 thing he has (drops) he will never b

  2. He’ll get that money from a tam with an elite QB and established offensive system, like GB, and turn into an All Pro instantly. The Raiders will be a trainwreck for another 10 yrs…….garbage team

    1. Mike, why not just go away until times are better, more to your liking. You are clearly the fan that only is a fan in good times. I’m sure in life you’re weak too. So just go away, monitor things from a safe distance and when you feel it’s ok again, then return. Ok? I promise you if you do leave nobody will even know you left, you know, just like in real life.

    2. Shut the **** up and leave the team don’t no what u talking about have not played a snap all y’all that’s talking **** need to leave the nation beause we don’t die we mutiply RNFL

  3. At least Mack seemed to want to be a Raider until this year. Cooper has never seemed like he wanted to be there, he didn’t even look too thrilled when they drafted him! But, now they’re not going to get squat for him, because nobody is going to give up a high draft pick when the guy isn’t that good, yet wants a big extension!

    1. Mack was so awesome with the Raiders that I think in one year they almost got their D way up in the stratosphere of like 25th. (But usually around 29th) Ya, reeeeeaal difference maker, let’s pay him elite QB money. Sure thing. K bye.

    2. Mack didnt want to be there if he did he would showed up like obj did for giants. Cooper is not even worth that amount of money. The highest number he should be paid is about 10mil a year for 4 years and that is being greatful. He drops way to many balls to think he is a top receiver.

    3. But really, when does Amari Cooper ever look thrilled. He’s always had a non-chant demeanor about him. He’s always been quiet & calm.

  4. There’s the door. But somebody might have to work the handle for him with those stone hands. He’d be lucky to get half as much as he’s supposedly asking for.

  5. The ignorance of some of these comment is ridiculous. Amari was an All Pro the first two seasons with Oakland and was hurt most of last season. Now Oakland can barely keep their QB upright against defenses that they shouldn’t have problems with. Granted he has had some drop problems but has anyone stopped to try and figure out why!! He didn’t have that problem the first two years nor did he have that problem in college. He set number of reception records in a single season in college when everyone new he was getting the ball!! Oakland is a long ways from even being good much less great!! Also you are commenting on speculation not fact!! Good job “Fake News” for creating conflict where it’s nit needed!! When Oakland becomes a desirable place to play again they might get better! But when you send a signal to the team that we will let great players leave the program that is part of the great BASE that WAS being built in Oakland, ALL the other players question where they stand. With the exception of the Sub-Par QB that don’t have to worry about getting released because he will Never be good enough to DESERVE top pay!! J/S

    1. U should try to carefully think about matters b4 u throw insults. 4 ur info Cooper was not a well deserving all pro and did not produce great numbers n surely not all pro numbers. He has however excelled n been very consistent in 1 area n that is dropped passes with 18 occurring in his 1st season. He has been steady there n a lot of those r 3rd down. There is no way 2 gauge how many points or games his dropped passes caused but certainly they cost. Also, Coopers drops r historically bad 4 a WR n that is FACT from ignorant person. N talk about ignorance u actually insult people with being ignorant n u make statement averring how Cooper did not have problem in college but he had 13 or so drops in last 2 years at bama n had it noted as such on draft charts along with other deficiencies that have not improved in his time in NFL. U then suggest that maybe there is a reason as 2 y he drops passes as 2 say it is someone else’s fault – talk about ignorant. Well there einstein, Cooper has n continues 2 have problems in many areas not just drops (with 2016 being aberration as he had single digit drops only but had plenty of problem areas requiring improvement) n ur comment about a player requiring desirable place 2 play in order 2 DO HIS JOB – a job that affords him luxuries most people never c has got 2 b the most ignorant thing u said. If he cannot perform as he is paid 2 DO then he should work elsewhere n I do not remember Coopers agents’ name being Bart so please find alternate commentary habits cuz u suck bad at football commentary ( u r lame). N if u truly believe Carr is not a top tier QB then any1 reading ur commentaries should scroll rite by u n not waste time as Carr has numbers that r ranged in elite status. I will not disagree with shots at Raiders organization as there is some serious issues there n I myself believe that Gruden was so angry when Al Davis fired him after tuck game in New England n has been harboring hatred towards organization building each year. He then saw n received opportunity 2 have his get-backs n is destroying an organization that was in process of repairing it’s tradition. Nothing Gruden says can or should be believed n he is clearly making decisions that have destroyed a season that could have been totally different n placed future of Raiders being successful in jeopardy, at least for some years. Gruden has nothing 2 worry about since contract is mostly guaranteed.

  6. Wake up. 7. Point Blank AC is worth the green. Check tapes AC is wide open on numerous plays. Some how DC can’t or won’t get him the ball. Ya gotta get targets 2 get stats. AC is going 2 shine bright like a diamond whoever scoops him up. In my opinion JG has lost the locker room and AC and others don’t wanna play for his crazy ***. RN4L best believe that. Also he is looking 2 unload Conley and Joseph. Joseph yeah ok but Conley really…..

    1. U r entitled 2 ur opinion but since u point 2 reviewing tapes as a means of supporting ur opinion I had 2 say something. I m die hard Raiders fan but I m honest 1. Cooper is not a great receiver, not deserving of number 1 receiver slot. He has historically bad stats in some areas n came into NFL with many poor areas requiring improvement that have not improved. He has cost Raiders 4sure n has had several games whereby he could not get open n has poor route running habits/skills. I m providing facts not supposition or fan fantasy wishes. Maybe 1 day he can become a top tier receiver since he possesses great speed but it has not occurred thus far, not deserving of “the green” as u suggest, n normally a great receiver is already a great one or became one a gud ways b4 their 5th season. Regardless the Raiders should not tender top tier WR $ to Cooper n he should never expect that kind of $. Mack deserved that $ but Cooper does not – not even mid tier receiver $ but I’m sure some team in NFL will give him money he doesn’t deserve as the NFL employs many retarded decision makers but pay is not indicative of talent or production.

  8. Just ship him out for devante parker and a pick, or….trade for a pick and bring in a aggressive receiver like ummm…dez!

  9. If Todd Gurley wouldn’t have hurt his knee he’d be a Raider instead we end up with Cooper who has all the talent in the world but no desire to be the best. The Raiders need to stop drafting combine warriors and start mixing in some tough guys who love football and winning.

  10. How about drawing up some plays for the guy? Expecting him to go out and break ankles every play isnt ideal, and its stupid if you dont throw the ball his way. Scheme him open and Cooper will take it to the house. It amazes me that the idiots that comment on these posts the most are the ones that know the least about the game. All you morons trashing Coop need to dig your Seahawks jerseys back out and hit the road before you say the wrong **** to a real Raider fan.

  11. Good points in most all these comments, but you fix that OL and Carr gets back to 2016 form in his head and his abilities, than Amari will show vast improvement. But will that be enough to keep him by giving the big money? Amari will be in the same boat as Carr as far as whether or not Gruden wants to pay out that much money, especially if he has allot of draft choices. Gruden will wait on Amari till after the season i think.
