Insider Says It’s “Pretty Obvious” to People in the NFL what Maxx Crosby Wants

On Friday, Maxx Crosby addressed trade rumors that have picked up around him since Wednesday, and based on his comments to FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd, he wasn’t looking to send the same message Jay Glazer put out earlier in the week.

“Now that I’m quiet, I’ve got random people making big statements for me,” Crosby told Cowherd.

“They’re like, ‘Maxx must’ve told them this.’ For me, I just sit back and laugh because I know my truth and when I go to bed at night, I have a smile on my face because I don’t have to explain nothing to nobody… I’m getting healthy. I’m in the building every single day. I’m in this building from 6 a.m. when it’s dark out, and I’m here until almost 2… That’s all I care about. So all the noise, that’s news to me sometimes.”

But as others have pointed out, Crosby didn’t deny that he might seek a trade in the offseason, and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini believes the message from Crosby’s camp is still “pretty obvious.”

From Russini’s report on Saturday…

“Maxx Crosby isn’t coming right out and saying it. But to coaches and general managers around the league, it’s pretty obvious. The Las Vegas Raiders’ star edge rusher would be highly interested in pursuing a change of scenery.

Crosby remains under contract, but there’s a strong sense in league circles that he could be there for the taking, despite the Raiders likely demanding a high price (think a Micah Parsons-like package). Las Vegas is not expected to try to make Crosby stay if he truly wants out.

The Raiders’ decision to sideline Crosby for the final two games of the regular season did not sit well with the five-time Pro Bowler. I reported at the time that the relationship between the two sides was strained, with Crosby, a serial competitor, frustrated with how the events played out.

It’s understandable why he’d be willing to envision a future elsewhere. Once the Raiders, as expected, hire Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Crosby will have a fifth full-time head coach since he debuted in 2019. He has played in one career playoff game. Imagine what he could do with a stable organization accustomed to winning.

Crosby once told me he’d love to play for Mike Vrabel, and it’s easy to see why they’d be a good match. The reality is, if Crosby does become available, the Patriots would be just one of many interested teams. It’s unclear how this will play out, but I’m increasingly skeptical he’ll play a down for Kubiak.”

If Crosby is ultimately traded, there has been an ongoing debate around his trade value.

Glazer believes the Raiders will be able to get two first-round picks and more for Crosby, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said he thinks Crosby might only be worth a late first-round pick.

“It’s not going to be Micah Parsons [compensation] because [Parsons] was younger,” Rapoport said on Raider Nation Radio’s Unnecessary Roughness with Q Myers.

“But, you know, a late [first round pick] would be real. Because the Raiders, thankfully, were bad enough, they don’t have to trade to get up to [the first pick]. They got it. It’s all just capital. If that’s what it was, they’re not going to replace Maxx Crosby, even if they hit on a great pass rusher, they’re still not going to replace him. What you do it, you replace him with a player and then use the money to go get other good players and really build up the foundation of the team. For sure you could make an argument that trading him makes sense.”

  1. It makes no sense to trade him for a late 1st rnd pick. An all pro DE that is relentless is worth much more. I don’t want them to trade him. He is a Raider through and through. You keep players like Maxx to set the example for the rest of the team. If the have to trade him, the jets can give up the 2nd overall pick. Then Maxx can see another side of misery. I hope not! But you don’t send him to the Patriots.

    1. Agree with you on not sending him to the Patriots. And Rapaport is just doing the bidding of the Patriots with the he’s only worth one late round 1 pick. I’d much rather see him go to the Lions, Bills, 49ers, etc. Basically anyone but the Patriots.

  2. Nothing to do with this article but welcome to the Raider Nation Clint kubiak! Had to post here because this website so slow with new stories

  3. Don’t ever publish anything by Mike Florio from pro football talk he’s a raider hater, just looking to start crap amongst the fans!
