According to a report on Monday from Tony Pauline, the Raiders top target in free agency will be Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson.
From the same source it sounds like the Raiders stiffest competition for the 28 year-old cornerback will be the 49ers.
“On Monday, we reported that the Oakland Raiders will make a big push to sign free-agent cornerback Trumaine Johnson,” Pauline said on Thursday. “Today I was informed that their main competition will be from the cross-town rival San Francisco 49ers, and many feel the team by the bay will win out.”
Former Raiders player and assistant coach Rod Woodson appeared in a segment this week on 95.7 The Game and said he doesn’t believe Johnson is ideal for the money it would cost to bring him to Oakland.
Woodson was complimentary of Johnson, but doesn’t feel like he’s a great fit for the Raiders anticipated scheme under new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther.
According to Pauline, if the Raiders don’t sign Johnson, their backup plan may be Eagles cornerback Patrick Robinson, who would reach free agency if he doesn’t re-sign with the Eagles.
