Reports Continue to Suggest the Raiders Want to Move Up in the Draft for a Quarterback

The NFL draft is still 10 weeks away, but there are a lot of signs pointing toward the Raiders making an aggressive move to draft a quarterback.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on the Raiders’ quarterback situation on Sunday, and it sounds like there’s no question the Raiders would like to find a way to add one of the top quarterbacks in the draft…

“New head coach Antonio Pierce wants to be aggressive in landing a new QB, and owner Mark Davis grilled GM candidates during the search process on how to trade up from No. 13 to get one... As Davis told NFL.com at Super Bowl Opening Night in Las Vegas: “The quarterback is probably the most important players on the field, so you’ve got to ask the GM, what is their vision? It’s an important question.”

As far as which quarterback the Raiders are targeting, there are several insiders suggesting the Raiders have their eye on LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

The next couple of months are peak lying season in the NFL, but this rumor probably isn’t going to settle down until the day of the draft..

Raiders Report Mitchell Renz on Twitter: “Just spoke with @JFowlerESPN & my takeaways were:- The Raiders want to keep Josh Jacobs- It won’t be easy for the Raiders to trade up for Jayden Daniels but they’re going to try / Twitter”

Whatever the Raiders decide to do at quarterback, it’s going to be interesting to see how the decision comes together. It seems like Mark Davis is willing to sign off on a blockbuster deal to move up in the draft, but the cost to move up from pick 13 would be significant.

Rapoport reported last week that it will take “historic” compensation to get to the top of the draft…

If someone is going to pry the No. 1 overall selection away from the Bears, they are going to have to pay — and pay a lot. Chicago would need a historic haul of draft picks and overall compensation to move off the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, sources say. In the words of one source, it would have to be “crazy.”

The cost to get to pick 3 would be less expensive than doing a deal with the Bears, but the other detail working against the Raiders is the fact that so many teams picking ahead of them are also looking for a quarterback.

The NFL’s free agency period begins on March 13 and the quarterback picture around the league will become clearer when a few of the top veteran quarterbacks are traded (in the case of Justin Fields) or signed.

  1. I disagree with the Raiders giving everything and the kitchen sink to draft a qb that might not turn out. I was against the Raiders looking at Fields, but at the end of the day, it makes sense. Raiders would give up a 2nd rounder plus another late rounder. This will let them get a top shelf CB, LB, or DE. Let’s do thos Raiders
