Reports Links Saquon Barkley to the Raiders, Bears and Josh Jacobs said to have “Mutual Interest”

Josh Jacobs is one of the veteran players that Raiders’ GM Tom Telesco would like to bring back next year, but it sounds like there is going to be legitimate competition for his services.

Among the teams believed to be interested in Jacobs are the Chicago Bears, who are sitting on the fifth-most salary cap room in the NFL.

Chicago Bears sideline reporter and ESPN 1000 Bears analyst Jason McKie was on the Chicago Bears Podcast this week, and said he talked to Jacobs’ agent directly about his interest in joining the Raiders.

“I know from his standpoint, Josh would love to be in a Bears uniform,” McKie said before adding that his agent represents Jacobs, as well. When McKie brought up the idea of Jacobs playing in Chicago, the agent said there has been some level of communication between the two. “I texted him [Jacobs] would look great in a Bears uniform. He’s like, ‘Hey, there’s mutual interest.’”

If Jacobs ends up signing with the Bears, it will be interesting to see how aggressive the Raiders are in finding another veteran running back.

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Raiders are among six teams considered to be interested in Saquon Barkley. The other teams he listed were the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.

It was a rather vague report from Leanard, and it’s hard to believe the Raiders will be willing to spend significant money on a running back just a week after Telesco talked about using a committee approach at the position next year.

On the other side of the argument, though, is the fact that the Raiders are expected to emphasize the running game more under Antonio Pierce.

So maybe they would consider adding the player that most consider to be the top running back in the free agent class.

  1. Barkley seems to be a decent replacement for our best runner. Maybe JJ is trying to hold us up or really wants to leave. Work our what we can with Barkley if Josh wants to leave. I forgot his name, but our second runner is pretty good. Be sure to keep him.
