Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to be the first quarterback taken in the 2025 draft, and despite the fact that he isn’t considered by many to be a generational prospect, he is quickly turning into one of the highest-profile quarterbacks to enter the draft in years.
Deion Sanders offers new soundbites around his sons every week, and a lot of the talk around Shedeur goes back to comments Deion made several months ago about pulling an “Eli Manning” and not allowing his son to play for particular NFL organizations.
On Friday, Deion was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show and the conversation shifted to the draft almost immediately.
Asked by Eisen about his “draft plan” for Shedeur, Deion implied that he doesn’t have a preference and deferred the decision to Shedeur.
“I just want these guys happy, man. I just want them happy in the right situation to soar,” Deion said. “Unfortunately, they are so good that they are going to go to a team that wasn’t that good the prior year, but that could all change with the announcement of their names. That could all change quickly.”
From there, Eisen got more specific in his questioning.
“Do you have a spot that you want Shedeur to go to?” Eisen asked.
“No, no, no. You know what his goal is? I just saw it on his podcast,” Deion answered. “[His] goal is to go before I did and he’s going to eclipse that because I was the fifth pick. He’s certainly going to be one or two, or whatever he’s going to be. That’s what he wants. He never told me that, but that’s what he wants.”
Deion added that he knows the two teams most likely to end up drafting Shedeur.
“It’s the Raiders and the Giants. The way the pick is going right now, that’s where it’s going to go,” Sanders said before being asked if there was any potential that he could be the head coach for one of those teams.
The elder Sanders said he has had no conversations about coaching in the NFL and hinted at a new deal potentially coming with the University of Colorado.
Based on the roster he is working on at Colorado, the future looks bright for Sanders in the college ranks.
Sanders doesn’t have one of the top freshman classes coming to Colorado in 2025, but he has become one of the most effective coaches in the NCAA at adding players through the transfer portal.
Not only did Sanders add one of the most talented true freshman quarterbacks in the country, but he also has the no. 11 ranked transfer portal rank, according to 247 Sports.
