SiriusXM NFL Host Offers Compelling Reason Why the Raiders Should Not Pursue Tom Brady

Are the Raiders really preparing to pursue Tom Brady in free agency?

SiriusXM NFL Radio host Jim Miller played under Jon Gruden and was a backup quarterback behind Brady in New England. Asked this week about about the fit Brady would be with Gruden in Las Vegas, and Miller was skeptical.

“That offense is far different under Jon Gruden than what Tom Brady has run over the last 20 years of his life,” Miller said on SiriusXM’s NFL Radio’s Movin’ the Chains (channel 88). “So unless Jon Gruden is going to alter that offense, much how Denver altered their offense for Peyton Manning, which I don’t see happening because Jon loves calling plays.”

Not only does Miller think the transition for Brady to Gruden’s offense wouldn’t be ideal, he also believes the Raiders have invested too much into the current offense to change course now.

“Think about the foundation that they have laid. All that new offense. All that verbose volume of information,” Miller added. “You’re going to throw all that away for Josh Jacobs, all those players that you just taught to bring in a whole new offense for Tom Brady? I just find that hard to believe because that is a voluminous offense with a lot to learn, with a lot of checks, a lot of audibles, a lot of things that you have already invested in, and I just think that is totally off the table for the Oakland Raiders.”

As many have pointed out over the past few months, the Raiders don’t have many, if any, quarterback options with equal ability to Carr.

Would it be worth throwing away Carr’s understanding of Gruden’s vast and complicated offense to make a lateral move at the most important position on the field?

Probably not.

  1. I agree. I doubt very seriously Gruden would sign Brady. Besides the $COST$ it would take to get a 1or if you’re lucky 2 year QB.
I think we’re stuck with Carr at least another year! I see Gruden finding someone he can mold behind Carr then trading Carr away. Right now unfortunately there’s no one to replace him with!!!

  2. hope the raiders dont go after brady it would be a big mistake we need to build threw the draft get ayoung qb in draft are stay with carr but do need a good backup i just a 43 year old qb is not the way to to much money an draft picks

  3. I might even consider taking two wide receivers with my first round picks and three linebackers with my third round picks and picking up everything else I need in free agency

  4. Finally… Someone who knows what he is talking about… Maybe the others are offended by DC’s religious beliefs??? If not then they are Just Plain Stupid…. and/or Need Attention

  5. This too is my view … I think Derik Carr is a great QB who can bring the championship back to the Raiders . We should stick with Carr ., However some help in the receiving corp ,linebackers and secondary will need to be upgraded .

  6. When Carr wins the SB MVP, I want him to shove the Lombardi Trophy up everyone’s *** that has been saying to get rid of him!!

    1. Now You’re Talking MY Language!!! Carr is Top 12 and Getting better… The Only Issue is that he is Gun Shy when any defender gets near his legs… no doubt residual from his shattered Bone Trauma… but nobody (but Gannon) works as hard and knows the Gruden Offence as well as he does…

  7. Who said anything about changing the offense? Jim Miller is making up lies.

Brady would come in and learn Gruden’s west coast offense. Gruden’s wouldn’t change his entire playbook.

Brady has the IQ to learn a new system and most likely run it better than Derrek carr ever could.

What a NON story and a retarded opinion

  8. I’ve been a fan for 20 plus years, Carr is good QB who could be great if he had some WR. Leave the QB position alone, trade, wheel and deal put us in a position to take Alabama top WR. Jerry Jeudy

  9. Carr has the accuracy, proven record with the type of plays required by the Coaching Staff, get him some good players and he will be able to accomplish even more!!!
