Shedeur Sanders was supposed to be selected in the first round of the draft, and one of the popular teams linked to the Colorado quarterback was the Las Vegas Raiders.
Minority owner Tom Brady has a good relationship with the Sanders family and has an NFL deal with Shedeur. The dots were connected between Brady and Sanders for months, but when it came down to the draft, the Raiders repeatedly made the decision to pass on Shedeur.
The team’s decision not to draft Shedeur was telling, and it would be interesting to know why Brady didn’t push the Raiders to take him.
Obviously, that isn’t a story Brady is going to share publicly anytime soon, but former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan talked a little about what Brady told him on Sanders’ slide in the draft.
“I spent time with Tom Brady this past weekend and we watched the Draft and as Tom said, he’s an example, it doesn’t matter when you’re picked,” Strahan said on ABC’s Good Morning America.
“I don’t think this kid should’ve dropped to the fifth round, and I hate when you have unnamed sources,” Strahan added from his own opinion. “If you’re going to say something that bad to disparage a kid, put your name on it first of all.”
To Strahan’s point, an issue for Sanders during the draft process is that a lot of teams weren’t being truthful with Deion Sanders. At one time, the elder Sanders proudly announced that Shedeur was going to be the first pick in the draft and the NFL community was clearly on a different wavelength in terms of their evaluations on Shedeur.
One other detail from Strahan’s comments is that he spent time with Brady during the draft. And that would suggest Brady wasn’t with the Raiders during the draft – or at least not during a portion of the draft.
Maybe that’s information that has already reached the public, but there were hints from members of the media prior to the draft that Brady might be with the team during the draft.
Based on Strahan’s comments, that apparently did not happen.

I agree with the whole anonymous scouts thing. I understand quality journalism cannot exist without the occasional use of anonymous sources, and there are plenty of times where it’s appropriate….
But anonymous “insiders” using reporters to launder what is often just slander and gossip about players chasing their dreams is way over the top. Unfortunately, there are certain reporters who are happy to be used this way, some even make it their breadand butter. Luckily, Raiders fans have a lot of quality writers covering the team who don’t engage in that type of stuff….
If you’re not going to put your name on it, you should probably at least limit yourself to talking about the player’s on-field attributes, IMO.
Who cares !
Yeah Michael Strahan is not one to lecture us on a moral high ground
