For those not keeping up with the Russell Wilson trade rumors, it’s starting to feel like a foregone conclusion that Wilson is going to be on a new team within the next few weeks.
It’s also starting to seem like there is a front-running team to make a deal for Wilson.
That team is the Chicago Bears.
A Chicago Tribune report on Friday said that the Bears are preparing to make a run at Wilson, which makes sense because Chicago is desperate for a quarterback and they have a head coach and GM sharing the hottest of hot seats. The Bears have been probing around with phone calls (for a while actually) in search of another first-round pick (or maybe two) to send to Seattle for Wilson.
So how might the Bears pursuit of Wilson affect the Raiders?
Given the fact that at least one person within the Raiders organization thinks Jon Gruden might make an aggressive trade for a defensive player, is it possible the Raiders would make a move for Khalil Mack or Roquan Smith?
If the Bears would ever be willing to give up a premium defensive player, now would be the time. And if the Raiders would ever be willing to give up a premium pick for a defensive player, the time would definitely be now.

Mack is 30 yr. old, has 4 more years on a very high dollar contract. Roquan Smith is young, much cheaper, only has this year left on rookie contract. I dunno.

I am a Carr fan but if you think that he is better than Wilson you are sadly mistaken. Wilson has been consistently a producer and is also mobile. Carr is just not a mobile quarterback. Had Carr not done as well as he did this last year I could see Gruden trading for Wilson. Whatever team Wilson lands on he will make an IMMEDIATE impact on (just like Brady did) and elevate that team.
I get that Wilson would be a modest upgrade over Carr, but he is 3 years older, and definitely a higher Cap hit, so if you were Mayock/Gruden, how would you then improve your horrible defense, since you’re also giving up a 1st and 2nd rd picks in the upcoming Draft?
No way, just keep Carr, he’s great for the Raiders. Just get sum stud defensive players that have a real passion for the game! Make those draft pics count or just go get sum free agents!

I’m afraid you are seriously mistaken. We’d over pay for a upgrade that isn’t even necessary. We have a good QB and once our defense gets bolstered in free agency and the draft, we will make a serious run at the Super Bowl title. I think we are a couple of good defensive player away from delivering knock out blows to offensives we face.
Do you watch football? The defense gives up points whenever the opposite team needs them regardless of how little time is left. I slightly more dynamic offense may have resulted in 1 more win. Meanwhile all the experts are saying that the Raiders need to go all in on fixing the nearly record setting bad D. There is literally no reason the Raiders should be worried about offense until they can say they won’t give up the most points per game, and the highest QBR in the league.

So Willson is not fresh or new he is older and on the down side of his career. His contract would hurt the Raiders for years to come. DC4 is a good QB who can win. Do you really wanna go back to year one with a new QB under Gruden. If you truly think about that your answer should be NO. Defense is our biggest problem right now and should be our biggest concern in FA as well as the draft.
I don’t know if Wilson would bring a whole lot more to the team. Yes he can scramble and throw. Carr can through just as well and obviously not run much. If the Raiders give too much for a QB it’s going to be another long year given that defence. Scoring isn’t the problem.

Ok so let’s face it. Russell Wilson is a QB that wins regular season games. The only reason he’s played in 2 superbowls is cause of there defence. Card is better than Wilson and if our defence could stop a nose bleed we would have been in the playoffs the past 2 seasons.
If the Raiders would have made the playoffs the past 2 seasons instead of their last place D blowing it then we wouldn’t even be discussing D Carr. Stop blaming Carr cause bringing in a Watson or a Wilson without the D will result in the same thing Houston and Seattle got…sitting at home on Super Bowl Sunday and probably not even making the playoffs. A “great” QB and no D is not a good game plan. With 2 minutes left in the game and down by a score I love my chances with Carr, he’s proven he can handle the pressure to score that game winning TD, so fix the D first before selling picks for a fantasy outcome. Carr has excellent stats as far as passing yards and completion rate. But the only thing that matters in the NFL is the win/loss record. Who cares if you have the highest QB rating in the league if you can’t win games. Carr could take you to the playoffs at best but no way could he win a Super Bowl for you especially with Gruden as head coach. Sorry but the truth hurts! There are only a limited amount of top tier QBs that can take you all the way to the promised land so either trade Carr or just be satisfied with making it to the playoffs and that’s it!
I agree Gruden sucks n has made so many horrible decisions n is the sole reason Raiders r not better. Gruden is only a coach cuz we have the worst owner in history of league.
Raiders can win it all with Carr at QB thou. He has not yet had the rite team around him. What QB in history has excelled under similar circumstances as Carr; how many different coaches, offensive cord., QB coaches, players always switching n almost yearly (every year Cooper, Crabtree, n Roberts) receivers lead league in drop passes, usually 1 of the worst defenses in league. I could go on n on
I don’t care what QB you bring to the team or have on the team. If the offense produces 25 to 30 points but the defense gives up 26 to 31 its clear the problem is defense. When was the last time We had a top 10 defense? The defense is the problem but it doesn’t start there. Gruden has to take 1st blame for thanking offense only but defense wins the game and ships. The DC is the next issue not putting packages together to produce sacks, turnovers, 3 and outs on a consistent basis. Then it comes to the players to have that will to be great to win the one on one battles and the DESIRE to stop getting embarrassed every week. The same way they played against KC had they played like that in all 16 games we wouldn’t be on this conversation today.

Fix the defense , we’ve got a good quarterback. Just as good as Wilson or Watso. It’s hard to win games when your basically down, 25- 30 or more points every game,before it even starts. Carr will win with a defense,and he will win a lot.
