Turns Out Marshawn Lynch Isn’t The Problem In Oakland

Everyone wants to know what’s wrong with the Raiders offense.

After a dramatic win against the Chiefs without Marshawn Lynch, there were rumblings about Beast Mode’s real value to the offense. Was it coincidence that the offense erupted with Lynch on the sidelines… or more accurately, in the stands?

Would the Raiders reclaim their identity with Lynch out of the lineup?

As it turns out, the Raiders are no better without Lynch. He wasn’t the solution (when he was on the field) and he wasn’t the problem (when he was off the field).

The whole thing is a wash and the problem obviously goes much deeper.

The Raiders offensive line still can’t run block and for whatever reason, Todd Downing’s offense returned on Sunday to the neutered state that has plagued the group for more than a month.

Why have they become so conservative? For that matter, why can’t the Raiders execute even the simple aspects of the offense?

It’s a mystery that even head coach Jack Del Rio doesn’t seem to have an answer – or at least wouldn’t offer one after Sunday’s game.

So by process of elimination, we’ll keep ruling out suspects.

Marshawn, you are not the problem.

  1. Culprits in order of responsibility:

    1. Del Rio & Downing: can’t separate them.
    2. Carr’s regression/lack of improvement. Some of this is coaching related, of course. But seems as if game is speeding up for him, contrary to what you’d hope for. Only good when he has excellent protection. All QBs better that way, of course, but best are not totally befuddled by pressure. Carr is.
    3. Norton. Defense is just so bad, it’s laughable.
Part of that is talent, but some of it is coordination.

  2. Its Downing and his stupid predictable game calling! What happened after the first drive? Reggie dismal draft #95 #91#39#88#89#20 can go on and on,,,,,,,JDR poor fool can’t fire Norton or Dumbing(downing)! Time to clean house ! #21#27#39#89#29#10,,,,__just keep #52

  3. When I’m home watching the game, I can see what play the raiders are calling be they even call it. I’m my opinion they run a high school offense. Last year the Raiders were explosive and hard to stop. They added new skilled players. Only one thing has changed. Offensive coordinator and the scheme is embarrassing to watch. To much talent to only produce what they do. They need a change and need one ASAP. Please bring in a new coordinator!!

  4. Man, this is getting old fast!! This coaching staff is proving one thing for certain…they CAN’T COACH!! FIRE KEN NORTON JR. TODAY, HIS SCHEMES AND TECHNIQUES DON’T WORK but the defensive line coach is horrible!! Excuse after Excuse!! Sad!! As far as Downing, said it before and say it again, he’s over his head, he doesn’t know what he’s doing, JDR just admit you screwed up by letting Musgrave go! JDR is way overrated!! The more you lose, the more you will have to clean house or your *** will get fired after 2018! Oakland fans why bother paying ur money to support these overpaid players who suck!! They got raises/extensions and put out this **** product, no wonder this franchise is cursed. Reggie, start drafting real football players instead of reaches or your *** is going to get fired, what a DISASTER!

  6. I don’t understand why, they took a line that was built for power blocking and changed the blocking scheme to zone blocking. Smoke and mirrors used to work until too many teams switched to it, and today’s defenses just choke it……. Why not at least change up, put in some power blocking plays and mixed in with the zone blocking. Make the opposing defenses stop for a second and think…. An opposing defense that hesitates is our friend…

  7. It’s obvious the problem is not with Marshawn. That line of argument gives writers a subject to write about. Downing changed our power blocking scheme, which was working very well, to zone blocking. The results are like watching dominoes falling. The O-line is not built for zone blocking, so the run game is suffers, the pass suffers, and Carr looks worse than he really is. We were a powerhouse on Offense last year for good reason; the talent is there. It was time to move on from Musgrave because he took us as far as he was able to take us. We needed a better offensive mind to take us to the next level because we are capable of playing like the Pats in their prime. No need to mention KNJ; that situation is obvious. The DL coach has escaped criticism, but he needs to be replaced ASAP! This team, with the exception of the secondary, should be dominating in all other facets of the game. I have lost confidence in Del Rio because he is too hands off with the coordinators. That is a dereliction of duties.

  8. Last year we had Washington, Richard, and Murray…now we trade Murray for this other guy, and he isn’t nearly as productive as Murray. Washington and Richard were part of our offense last year, so how is it not Lynch? He can’t catch(I don’t mean this literally, but he dropped a couple of passes and he only was targted a few times, and has busted out no big runs! Murray was a machine when it came to 3rd down and long. When you don’t have a strong back to lead, Washington and Richard are just not suitable.
Look at all these trades, HUGE TRADES made this year. And what did Fat Reggie do?
Well, I will say with Bowman, and both our 1 and 2 pick coming back soon, we will see if we can muster any kind of defense for a late run…but our offense, WHAT ARE WE DOING?
