Beat Writer: Jim Harbaugh “Very Much in Play” for the Raiders

Jim Harbaugh is expected to make his return to the NFL soon and it sounds like the University of Michigan head coach is very much on the Raiders’ radar.

According to Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the conditions are right for Harbaugh to be the next Raiders head coach…

The buzz of him being in play for the Raiders has been ongoing since Davis fired McDaniels on Halloween night, but it wasn’t clear how interested Harbaugh was in leaving Michigan for the NFL. The hiring of Yee changes all that, and as an NFL source with knowledge of the situation indicated Tuesday, Harbaugh to the Raiders is very much “in play”…

Harbaugh, whose wife is from Las Vegas, began his coaching career in 2002 as an assistant with the Raiders and spent two seasons in Oakland as the quarterbacks coach. In his short time with the Raiders, Harbaugh made quite an impression on Al Davis, the team’s longtime owner and Mark’s father.”

Bonsignore later said on Raider Nation Radio’s The Morning Tailgate, that his choice for the Raiders’ next head coach would be Antonio Pierce or Jim Harbaugh and that opinion seems to fall in line with the fan base, as well.

As for Jon Gruden, who has been discussed as a possibility for the job, it seems like a couple of scenarios would have to fall through before he would be hired by the Raiders again.

Then again… never say never with Mark Davis when it comes to Gruden.

  1. I read that Michigan offered Harbaugh a 10 year contract that includes a no NFL clause. I also read that he was interested in the chargers job a year ago, and that the chargers would be frontrunners. Now that there’s an opening, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that he would take the chargers job if not for Michigan. Unfortunately!

  2. I’d hire Harbaugh . . He’s the closest thing to a sure thing there is out there in the coaching world. Love AP’s intensity and enthusiasm . . But i question his ability to sustain the were the underdogs that don’t get respect that the team is buying into right now. After McDoushbag any coach looks like a massive improvement. Would love Harbaugh be the HC, maybe make AP the DC.

  3. Please, Please, Please, don’t even bother to look in the Harbaugh, Harbaugh give your self a reason for living. He not the one you want, unless you really want to pay, and it want be from the nose!

  4. I think if you bring Jim harbaugh Antonio Pierce as defensive coach or assistant wise choice

  5. I hope we get Harbaugh for the HC position. He is a proven winner wherever he goes. It used to be we can score but no Defense. Now we can’t score, and the defense is ok. 3O scored against the Giants, not a great D. 16 pts scored against the overrated Jets. Loss to the Dolphins that didd.t have all their stars. Loss to the Chiefs 31-17 after having a double digit lead, AGAIN!!! O POINTS against the Vikings. 63 points against the Chargers, a team that gave up on the HC, without Herbert. Beat the Chiefs without WR’s and RB’s. Loss to the Colts 23-20, no one special. I guess what I’m trying to say, is we continue to be consistent every year. We beat ourselves with stupid penalties and turnovers. THE CULTURE HAS TO CHANGE, PERIOD. Harbaugh will change that.
