Could Bizarre Plot Twist Bring Reunite Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers in Las Vegas?

Based on every indication over the last week, it appears the relationship between Davante Adams and the Raiders has deteriorated to a point of no return.

That’s not something that anyone has reported, but it seems obvious based on the words and body language coming from Adams and head coach Antonio Pierce.

There probably aren’t many scenarios where Adams would return to the Raiders, but a provocative idea was brought up this week after his two preferred trade options experienced disastrous weekends.

In a matter of hours, the Jets and Saints both fell to 2-3 on the season. The Jets fired their head coach, and the Saints will reportedly be without Derek Carr for the next two games on account of an oblique injury he suffered on Monday night.

Adams has not publicly stated why he requested to be traded, but the assumption is that he doesn’t like the direction the organization is headed, particularly at the quarterback position.

If that’s his no. 1 concern, is there a scenario where his Aaron Rodgers could wiggle his way out of New York and join Adams in Las Vegas?

MLFootball on X (formerly Twitter): “If the #Jets continue to lose… maybe Aaron Rodgers will request to be traded to the #Raiders & reunites with Davante Adams. They’ve got a bunch of really good weapons & it’s Vegas.🧐👀Likely? No. But would this be fun as hell? It most definitely would. (h/t @FDSportsbook) pic.twitter.com/rG6k1CIqV2 / X”

From a salary cap and dead money standpoint, it might not be an option for the Jets, but Rodgers’ contract could easily fit under the Raiders’ salary cap. If not this year, could it happen next year?

Before throwing out the idea, a comment just before the start of the season from Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter at least deserves a mention with all the speculation around Rodgers and Adams at the moment.

“There are several reasons [I think Aaron Rodgers could come to the Raiders next year],” Hondo said in August on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“Luke Getsy is here. [Aaron] is very close to Luke. He’s very close to Joe Philbin and very close to Davante Adams. On a team where if you put Aaron Rodgers on the Raiders today, I not only think you expect the playoffs, I think you’re looking at them, potentially, being a massive contender.”

“Do I think it’s a probably? No. Do I think it’s a possibility? Yes, I do.” Hondo continued. “Plus, I’ve had a couple birdies from around the league allude to me that [could happen].”

In the long term, the better option for the Raiders would probably be to suffer through another grueling season and find a franchise quarterback in the draft. If they had tried that approach in each of the last two seasons, the outlook in Las Vegas would probably be a little more optimistic right now.

  1. Please, a big NO to acquiring Rodgers! We already have a prima donna WR, we don’t need the same thing at the QB position. The team isn’t a QB away from playoff contention, so stop with this stupid notion. Let the old guy finish out in NY, with Adams, i hope.

  2. It’s about Fricken time someone write about this possible scenario…I’ve been saying it for 2 years since they ditched DC. Keep Devante, trade for Rodgers and still draft a qb next year RaaDUHs! Come on Telesco don’t pull a McDonald’s and blow it again and get stuck with NO QB that can play AGAIN ! So they lose a couple of second round picks…since when have they ever amounted to much?! This team needs some life right now , some juice , some Fricken excitement … Rodger and Devante together again in Vegas does that Mark …. no matter if it equals playoffs or not this year. If it doesn’t you get a higher 1st round pick for that qb next year. You could also trade cheaply for Lance or Young and sit them behind Rodgers next year if he still wants to play. Make it so Telesco !

  3. An OC both Rodgers and Adams know well. The NY media are split on already hating Rodgers. Makes complete sense.

  4. STOP IT!
Luke Getsy is 97% of the problem! He crashed and burned in Chicago and he calls sub-high school plays with the Raiders. The ground and pound the middle with a zone blocking scheme with the current offensive line is asinine. The Jet Sweep with no wrinkle only works once a game. The Raiders need the sharp shooter in AOC and some imagination with the running game.
Luke Getsy is not the answer and it is becoming obvious that AP’s “just win by 3 points” is a fatal mindset.
Devante will stay if AOC is given the rock for the rest of the season – if not, he’s gone.
