Davante Adams Trade Outlook Ran into a Roadblock over the Weekend

There were reports going into the weekend that Davante Adams was likely to be traded this week, but it sounds like that might not end up being the case.

The Jets and Saints have been reported to be Adams’ preferred destinations, but both teams suffered significant setbacks this weekend.

After a 2-3 start to the season, the Jets fired head coach Robert Selah on Tuesday morning, and it was announced on Tuesday afternoon that Derek Carr is expected to miss the next two games for the 2-3 Saints.

At this point, neither team is a lock to make the playoffs and neither team is guaranteed to be in a better situation in December than the Raiders.

“I think the events in New York and the events in New Orleans may have slowed down talks with those two teams and we’ll see when they can pick up some steam,” Schefter reported on Tuesday. “Everybody does expect that Davante Adams is going to be traded, we just don’t know where or when, but right now the Jets are going through a head coaching change, New Orleans has an injured quarterback, and we’ll see how that impacts Davante Adams going forward.”

The Raiders are reportedly looking for a second-round pick for Adams, and nothing about the events of the weekend seemed to push the Saints or Jets any closer to paying that price for him.

Bill Belichick weighed in on Adams’ trade value this week and he believes the All-Pro wide receiver is worth significantly less than a second-round pick.

“I think the Raiders are asking for a second-round pick,” Belichick told McAfee. “I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that’s what has been reported.”

“That’s a very high price to pay for a player [with his contract],” Belichick continued. “I’m not sure… what his contract situation would be next year, whether you could afford his contract next year, or whether the new team would want to re-do it. I think for really a one-year contract, I think that’s really more of like a fourth or a fifth-round pick.”
