The Raiders hit the news cycle hard again this week and, once again, it involved Davante Adams. And once again, it involved head coach Antonio Pierce.
The perfect storm, you might say, for another Raider headline.
On Monday, a report suggested the Raiders are being careful with Adams’ hamstring injury because the team anticipates trading him before the November 5 deadline. The report even added that Adams probably could have played in week 4 against the Browns, but the Raiders wanted to be cautious with his trade value.
“I’ve got little birds all over, right?” Sports Illustrated’s Michael Fabiano said on Monday. “Some of my little birds out there are suggesting to me that there’s a chance he doesn’t play another down for the Raiders and that he could have played yesterday, but the Raiders are looking to deal him because they think they could get some value for him.”
There have been trade rumors around Adams for months, but the ‘liked’ post by the head coach certainly made the matter worth addressing on Tuesday.
As fate would have it, Adams appears every Tuesday on the Up and Adams Show, and he was asked right away about the latest story around him.
“I haven’t heard from [Antonio Pierce]. I haven’t talked to him,” Adams said. “I don’t really know what that was about. Obviously social media is a beast, so it’s a lot of people out there that saw it and wondering what’s going on, and people reaching out.”
Asked by host Kay Adams if he wanted to hear from Pierce, Davante said he didn’t know how to answer.
“Honestly, it’s hard to comment on,” Adams said. “It’s one of those situations where I just keep my head down and keep down my thing, and let the chips fall where they may. There’s been no communication with anybody from the team since that became thing… there’s always some sort of [trade] drama, but at the end of the day one-seven doesn’t create any of it.”
