Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce created headlines on Sunday night when he accused certain players on the team of making “business decisions” in the Raiders 36-22 loss to the Panthers.
“I think as the game went on… I don’t think it was the team… I think there was definitely some individuals that made business decisions, and we’ll make business decisions going forward, as well,” Pierce told members of the media in the wake of Sunday’s evening’s loss.
Pierce didn’t say who he was talking about, but the internet has decided at least one of the players was third-year cornerback Jack Jones.
There have been mixed reviews on Pierce’s decision to call out players publicly and Davante Adams was asked for his opinion on the matter on Tuesday.
In his weekly segment on the Up and Adams show, Adams acknowledged that players were taking plays off, even adding that it happened at times before the game was out of reach.
“I agree [with Pierce’s comments],” Davante told host Kay Adams.
“We can’t change the score late in the fourth [quarter], so you just got to put the best stuff you can on tape. I think a lot of people were doing that and there were some guys out there that were just trying to see another day. That’s really not what the game is about and if you look at the tape across the whole game, it wasn’t really just late in the game. It was multiple times throughout the three hours we were out there…”
The true test of Pierce’s post-game comments isn’t what Davante Adams or any other player says on camera, but will come on Sunday’s game against the Browns.
If the team responds with a great performance in week 4 and beyond, it means the players involved (and there were a lot more than just one) were willing to receive Pierce’s message. That’s the response Pierce and the coaching staff are hoping for.
If the Raiders roll over and play another game like they did against the Panthers, that won’t be a good sign for Pierce, or anyone involved.

I agree with much of what the Raiders are saying. My only question is does this include the coaching staff? The offensive play calling is sub high school level since pre-season. As a coach, I am watching this with high school football players and they are dumbfounded that our high school play calling is more imaginative, innovated, less predictable and tailored to our talent than a NFL game calling. That goes all the way from down calls, to offensive line schemes, to situationals. And don’t even bring up the quarterback play and responsibilities Yikes.
On top of that, the Raiders NEED a HC that tries to win by 30 and only wins by 8 NOT a HC that tries to win by 3 and loses by 14. Coach to win by 50, not to just have the ball on the last drive. Pathetic.
Well ive been thru so many didsspointments with the Raiders over the kast 20 years like all Raider fans have … but this game is a major major dissspointment. I was thinking the days of crappy defense and horrible play was behind us. Apparently not.
They’ve got to do better I like AP as coach but they’re going to get him “FIRED” and it won’t be fair to him but the NFL is a business. Bench Minshew let AOC play like last year
