Expectation of Most Around the League is Raiders Will “Clean House and Start Over”

The Raiders have five games to prove it isn’t necessary, but the expectation of most right now is that an organizational overhaul is coming after the season.

Raiders’ owner Mark Davis hasn’t wanted to cast a dark cloud over a season that could still include a playoff run, but there’s no question that the team hasn’t been moving in a great direction after losing 4 of their last 5 games.

“It’s certainly possible [Mike] Mayock could end up staying, but it appears the expectation of most people around the league is that the Raiders clean house and start over,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported on Wednesday.

“Mayock was Gruden’s pick after all, and he doesn’t have front-office experience beyond what he has accrued with Vegas. He’s well liked, and it’s obviously possible he and Bisaccia finish the season strong and convince Davis to keep them, but I think a new coach is likely to mean a new GM.”

Right now the whispers are faint, but if the Raiders lose to the Chiefs on Sunday, the team’s coaching search is going to dominate the headlines for the final month of the season… which shouldn’t be anything unfamiliar for Raider fans who are 4 years of age or older.

Now if the Raiders beat the Chiefs on Sunday…

  1. The franchise is a disaster and will be for the foreseeable future. Even if they get the right people and the team starts to win more games they have abdicated any home field advantage in LV. The sea of opposition colors in the stands will always be a part of the LV experience.

    1. LV will never be a Home Field advantage for the Raiders. Only Oakland was. You hardly ever saw a fan in Oakland from an opposing team.

    2. It’s the first season allowed with fans. Brand new city. You can’t judge anything yet, you need at least a decade or more to develop a local fan base. Saying Vegas is a bust already is laughable.

  2. Your post refers to expectations.
The expectation is NO, the Chiefs will tromp the Raiders, especially with Carr at QB. My expectation is let’s play Mariota at QB 1 for balance of season to see what exactly he has, and how he plays and lifts team with the same O-Line that is currently available. We already know what the expectation is with No. 4

    1. I agree, put Marcus in to see what he can do. Just like Joey Bosia said, when the defense puts pressure on Carr he folds. All he does is check downs, and rarely throws down field unless his receiver is wide open. Besides With Marcus in the game if no one is open he’ll take off and run the ball. Which means now the defense has to put a spy on the QB to make sure he stays in the pocket. Carr has all the weapons a QB needs and can’t get the to them. He throws to the same couple of guys instead spreading the ball
around to all of his receivers.

        1. Look Michael. First off learn how to spell, before you call someone dump ***. Your spelling shows who is really the dump ***. Second don’t ever tell me about being a Raider fan, I was probably a Raider fan before you were even born. Back in the days of Kenny stabler was the QB. I’m still sticking to my original post it’s about the team not one player. Unless you been living under a flat rock then you should know that for the last years Carr has been under fire. Raiders went out and sign Jackson, he was open on at least three plays and Carr didn’t see him because he didn’t go thru his progression. He shut down when he gets pressure put on him. You watch what he does tomorrow against KC defense.

      1. You’d think Carr would be open to scrambling being that he broke his leg in the pocket! Go figure. Lot of 3rd and shorts could’ve been converted.

      2. I like to say you just hit it on the head everything you said is what I’ve been saying the whole time . Car is not a good quarterback the only thing you do is pad is stats . Some Raider fans can’t handle the truth check Downs getting sick throwing a ball in the dirt . Raider fans wake up it’s time for a change at quarterback what do you have to lose stop being stupid

        1. When he inherited a 2 and 14 garbage fire with practice squad level WRs he spread the ball around and got 3 winning seasons.

    2. I agree with playing Mariota as starter. Give the guy a chance. Carr is never consistent. I have been a Raiders fan since the early 80s and they really need a total overhaul.

        1. sounds like I finally found someone who agrees with me!! it’s not DC, it’s terrible o- line and lack of receivers!! like Jeff Saturday says, it’s the guys with the big butts that wingames!! our o-line can’t pass block or run block!! I guess if idiots are going to blame DC, they might as well blame jacobs!!!

  3. A new coaching staff is in order, because the existing one was good support for the HC that was assassinated, but inadequate without his vision and methods. A new HC will want to surround himself with familiars, as is typical. Know that this team was not beaten out of the league by fair play in competition, save perhaps for the Zebras, but rather by denizens of the NFL circle of Caesars. It would be prudent, when one seems to constantly be in the crosshairs of an assassin, to go after that assassin to be clear to move forward with the same rights and accommodations afforded other members of the “entity”, the NFL. If not, Mr. Davis may find himself repeatedly attacked with no accountability for the attackers while trying to interview said new staff. IF, he can find those brave enough to chance yet another in a long line of knives in the back. I hope Jon takes them down with him.

  4. Mayock has to go! This guy couldn’t pick a winner in a one horse race. Oh no, we don’t want Josh Allen, even Khalil was pure luck, nothing to do with Mayock but still, the Raiders wanted Watkins as I recall, but the Jets took him. The Raiders haven’t had a decent draft in 20 years! Jamarcus Russel, the whole world wanted him, trade back? No not us. Rolando McClain? Another great kick. The list goes on and on, maybe it is time for Marc Davis to go. The league should force him to sell, JMHO

  5. Great so a team 1 game out of a playoff spot with 5 games to go wants to blow things up and we in Raider Nation can look forward to another 3-4 seasons before we are a contender again. Or you can keep the base of this team and continue to build around the productive players and hope a coach and a few bad players don’t hijack your season! I hope everyone that claims to know how to fix this team/organization is preparing their resumes to submit to Mark Davis come seasons end! You all make me laugh!!

    1. The Raiders are and will always be the Raiders. Straight garbage. Different coaches, different players same results year in year out. I’m sick of wasting my life and I wish they changed the name when they abandoned the REAL fans in the bay. Sick of hearing about the 70’s and 80’s that s**t was 40+ years ago

  6. I GREW UP WITH MARK M. DAVIS . WE WERE ROOMMATES AT CHICO STATE. I TAUGHT HIM HOW TO FISH ,COOK, SNOW SKI, LAUGH , AND CHASE GIRLS. I I SPENT TIME AT HIS PARENTS HOUSE IN PIEDMONT. I WAS THERE WHEN AL WAS FEUDING WITH ROSSELLE. THE LEAGUE HAS ALWAYS TRIED TO F*** THE RAIDERS. PLEASE REMEMBER WE WERE/ ARE ? THE ONLY WILDCARD PLAYOFF TEAM TO REACH AND WIN THE SUPER IN 1980. THEN WE DID IT AGAIN IN 1983 AS THE ONLY TEAM TO TRAVEL FOR ALL 16 GAMES. WE PRACTICED IN ALAMEDA THEN FLEW TO OUR HOME GAMES IN THE L.A. COLISEUM. MARK POSSESSES THE GENIUS OF HIS FATHER AL.

    1. Never heard of Davis’s roommate before. So Waldo did you play any hoops in the Backyd. Did you wear green and white?

  7. LV will never be a Home Field advantage for the Raiders. Only Oakland was. You hardly ever saw a fan in Oakland from an opposing team.

  8. It is so sad watching the games and seeing so many other team fans in the stadium. RAIDER NATION should never let this happen. Never happen in Oakland or LA.

  9. Now as for a new GM, we all know Chucky was the GM. Mike needs to hit home runs on every daft pick this yr or yes he needs to go.

  10. We were done when he hired that guy y’all called Chucky, destroyed my team got rid of all our best players and now look at us. I’ve been a fan since 1972 I am now 58 years old and this is ridiculous

  11. First Carr need to be gone after this season no matter what he does in the remaining games.
He is just up and down and a check down Charlie!
Please Please Please get rid of him!

  12. What Makes you so sure it’s all Carrs fault. He played his old Coach that’s a defensive mind not that Great of a Coach yes he’s a nice Gay Christian brother as a lot of players, but I just read a article from an interview with Josh Jacob’s and he said that he’s made a cut left and sould of cut right .So is this about 1 player It’s no different from Jon Gruden getting his walking papers and inheriting the best Tony Dungey’s defense and playing a offense that lost there center and a Coach that Didn’t change any plays last time I checked there’s 52 players bunch of Coaches so let’s get it right

  13. The “Commitment to Excellence” has morphed into a “Commitment to Mediocrity”–That has to revert back to the former.

  14. Marcus Mariota needs to be the QB every time Derek Carr gets the Raiders to the red zone. Carr has been horrible in the red zone for the past 3 years. Touchdowns wins this game not field goals. And it seems Carr does a fine job getting his team to the red zone then all of a sudden the team just stops. Putting Mariota in from then on would be a perfect solution. The worst Mariota could do is not move the ball n the Raiders would kick the field goal anyway like they are doing now. Since Bisaccia took over Mariota now has 3 plays under his belt. 1 no gain, 1 TD n 1 first down. Why can’t the Raiders see that putting Mariota in increases their chances of something positive happening in the red zone. Raiders keep giving Carr the chances to prove himself in the red zone n he keeps getting the same results! Wake up Raiders n use Carr and Mariota together to help us win some games. Carr proved for 8 yrs now that he needs help in the red zone by taking us to the playoffs only once! Wanna wait another 8 yrs to get to the playoffs? Wake up coaches!!!

  15. Hey Michael L, you are fucking dumb, You don’t when to move on. It’s clear that Carr has turn the ball over at least twice in the last four games. In stead of having a ball control offense. Three and out all season long. The defense will get tired eventually. He gets shook when the defense continues to put pressure on him. He only throws to a couple of his receivers over and over again. Her rarely goes through his progression once he gets pressure put on him. At the end of last season Gruden said he need more weapons to throw to, and if the Raiders didn’t make the playoffs, there wouldn’t be any excuses.

  16. Give Mariota one game. If it doesn’t work, so be it. He has some flash of Lamar in him, and KC may just be the perfect game to check him out, right in an opponents back yard!! He has earned a start, and at this point, why not ?? Shake it up!!! Just win baby.
