Five Things We Learned about the Raiders in Sunday’s Embarrassing Loss to Panthers

If you missed the Raiders play football on Sunday, hopefully you didn’t record it.

If you recorded it, don’t watch it. Schedule a root canal or some other means of suffering, but whatever you choose, do not watch what the Raiders did in their home opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Let’s take a look at five things we learned about the Raiders in week 3. None of this is exciting…

Luke Getsy has A LOT to prove.

Outside of a strong fourth quarter against the Ravens, the Raider offense has been awful. They can’t run the ball and there hasn’t been any kind of rhythm to the passing game with Gardner Minshew.

Antonio Pierce wanted Getsy to double down on the running game against the lowly Panters and the results were no different than they were in the first two weeks.

The Raiders have a lot of talent on offense, and outside of a few occasions they haven’t played like it.

When things don’t go well in the NFL, the coaches tend to pay the price before the players.

Aidan O’Connell belongs back in the conversation at quarterback.

Minshew isn’t comfortable in Getsy’s offense. If he is, he sure is hiding it well.

Before the season gets into too much of a tailspin, the Raiders need to see if they can catch lightning in a bottle with O’Connell. It’s a long shot, but it’s worth a try. One more week of quarterback play like this will mean Pierce has to see what’s behind door no. 2 at quarterback.

O’Connell entered the game in garbage time against the Panthers and went 9-12 for 82 passing yards and a touchdown. It didn’t mean a lot because the game was essentially over, but AOC might have moved up the timeline for his return a little.

Without a healthy Maxx Crosby, the Raiders have no pass rush.

It was clear that Crosby (ankle) wasn’t at full strength on Sunday and the Raiders defensive line looked helpless against the Panthers’ O-line without him.

The loss of Malcolm Koonce hurt the Raiders a lot more than anyone outside of Las Vegas probably realized.

Someone on the Raiders’ D-line needs to step up a lot sooner than later.

How long will the organization have to wait on the emergence of Tyree Wilson?

The trade rumors around Davante Adams are coming back.

If the Raiders are winning, they need to hold on to their best wide receiver. If not, they have to consider dumping Adams’ salary and stockpiling draft picks.

It has always been ‘wait and see’ on Adams, and after Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Panthers, the momentum shifts back into the realm of uncertainty for the Raiders’ All-Pro wide receiver.

Prediction: If the Raiders are two games or more under a .500 winning percentage at the trade deadline, Adams is going to be shipped out of town.

In that scenario, will they be able to get a first-round pick for him?

Probably not, but you never know.

The Raiders can’t be taken seriously until they prove otherwise.

Raider fans have been around for this act too many times. Too many times over the last couple of decades, the Raiders have won a game that no one expects them to win and have bounced back with an embarrassing game like they did on Sunday.

Adam Schein on X (formerly Twitter): “I loved the Raiders today. I took the cheese on this team and culture. Shame on me. Shame shame shame shame shame. #Shame / X”

I loved the Raiders today. I took the cheese on this team and culture. Shame on me. Shame shame shame shame shame. #Shame

Until the Raiders prove they are for real, they can’t be trusted.

It’s a shame, too, because Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams are two of the best players in the NFL at their respective positions. They deserve better and so do the fans.

  1. We should have not given up on Josh Jacobs because we don’t have a running game now.
We got the wrong person from the Bears, we should have gotten Fields (QB) and not Luke Getsy (OC).
Yes, it’s time to try a QB change.

  2. Hey Raider Nation living in Northern California it seems CBS is decided to show the chargers instead of the Raiders so I say Raider Nation boycotts all CBS programs until things change!

  3. Watching the lowlights on RedZone was worse. How would al Davis react to this season so far? Some *** needs to be kicked. First, fire OC clown, second put AOC at QB, third build the run game after the passing game has destroyed the defense.
If that doesn’t work then tell Mark stop chasing his girlfriend and pay attention to our team.

  4. I know people fans are upset about the raiders. It’s been that way since mark davis took ownership, when AL Davis passed away. All these athletes better not go on a spending spree. A lot of the athletes don’t like Trump, especially the black athletes. I’m telling ya all right now the she wins, what’s left in America is over. Believe it or not biden is the worst president we ever had. She will top that if she wins. Get ready for the next depression, the U.S. is that close now.

  5. How embarrassing! Thought we had a stellar defense, WOW!!! also the offensive scene was the saints of the 80’s what a total embarrassing home opener.

  6. Fire all coaches. This is awful. Bullshit, the Raider coach did not have them ready. Sad but true. It starts from the top, and roll down on the players! Get gone Adam’s and Maxx. There no stability at the top
Same old sh— , every season!!!!😢🤮🤷‍♂️

  7. As a fan in Northern California, we can’t even watch the game on T.V. without having to pay a fortune for a streaming service. What do we get for that huge price? Garbage, year in and year out. What do we have to show for the thousands of dollars spent driving to Oakland, paying for parking, and tickets and $14. dollar beers? Our team taken away from us, and TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF MISERY!!! Please tell me the “Commitment to Excellence” signs are not still hanging in your Brand New Stadium built for Champions. In twenty-two years, we have gone to three playoff games and lost all three. Anytime we’re given a tiny window of hope, it is taken away from us. Why did you trade Kalil Mach? Why didn’t you treat Jacobs like the League Rushing Leader he was? Why did Gruden have to be an idiot and get kicked out?…Why why why??? Al Davis and John Madden must be sick in Heaven. My wife and I have been following the Raiders Faithfully since we were kids in the early seventies….We both grew up 25 minutes from Oakland. Come on, this is ridiculous! We both want to take a very expensive vacation to Las Vegas, but for what, not this same old STINK!

  8. Deconte Adam need a crash course of fundamentals on covering your points. Meaning when catching ball don’t leave ball out in open.,roll the films. Give the rookie running back the starting job. Take a longer look at the secondary, missing tackling should not be tolerated at all. The offensive line need to be switched around move them in a different set opposite of what they are playing. Adian Oconnell should be the QB period he’s been there .

  9. Rai Dahs are awful and so the entire NFL.
In LA we get one or 2 games on Sunday am, games that have no meaning to most west cost fans. I just get out and do yard work, drink a beer or go to the swap meet. Every year that passes the NFL helps me get rid of my Sunday BALL N CHAIN. They are going to one day find themselves without a fan base due there STUPID policy’s and not giving us games that mean anything.

  10. “Luke Getsy has a lot to prove.” Like proving he can formulate a competent, professional game plan and make the necessary/appropriate adjustments. Yikes.
