Insider Addresses the “Knock” on One of the Raiders’ Top Head Coaching Candidates

Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is one of the hottest coaching candidates in this year’s hiring cycle and according to at least one insider covering the Raiders, he might be the favorite to get the job in Las Vegas.

Kubiak was the architect of the Saints’ offense that was one of the best in the league prior to Derek Carr’s injury, and he is being credited this year with turning Sam Darnold and the Seahawks into a Super Bowl contender.

Kubiak doesn’t have many doubters when it comes to running an offense, but according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore, there are some who aren’t sure Kubiak has the personality to lead a locker room.

“That’s the knock on him, actually. [He’s] not the most charismatic dude out there,” Bonsignore said on Raider Nation Radio’s The Morning Tailgate.

“I’ve been asked a lot and I’ve heard that it’s the one thing that comes across when you talk to people… the big concern about him. Let’s just be honest about it. Is he charismatic enough to lead a group of players?”

“It’s not just an offense,” Bonsignore continued. “He’s just not he’s not in his office, the mad scientist putting it together. But one question that I would have for you… Didn’t we kind of have some of the same issues with Ben Johnson? Was he going to be a leader? Was he going to be charismatic because in Detroit, he was kind of a subdued guy, as well.”

“And now he’s taking his shirt off. You know what I’m saying? Once you get in charge, does your full personality come out at that point?”

With Kubiak still focused on the playoffs and the Seahawks the favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, it could be another three weeks before he is officially a head coach.

The Raiders are known to have had virtual interviews with 14 candidates to this point in the process and reports have mentioned Kubiak and Denver quarterbacks coach Davis Webb as two of the front runners for the job.

Chat Sports host Mitchell Renz offered another clubhouse leader this week, saying some believe the Raiders have Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter at the top of their wish list.

“Minter has been the name that I have heard, by far, the most in terms of who [John] Spytek and Tom Brady want,” Renz said on Monday.

The Raiders are expected to meet with more head coaching candidates in Miami this week as they are in town to watch Fernando Mendoza in the NCAA National Championship game on Monday night.

  1. Nobody gives Mitchell any info on raiders, period..

MF is a homer and a clown 🤡🤡..This site is literally a Jew misinformation site

  2. I seriously hope that comment above was some type of autocorrect catastrophe. If not, please choose another team to root for. The Raiders are supposed to be inclusive.

I’m just not sure I buy the idea that a leader has to be super charismatic. Pete Carroll and Antonio Pierce were charismatic. Was Bill Walsh? Belichick? Soon Shula? The Shanahans? Charisma is nice, but I’d much rather work for someone who is genuine, authentic, caring and puts me in position to succeed than someone who can win a press conference.
