Insider Says Raiders Could Have “Mutiny” in the Locker Room if Antonio Pierce isn’t Retained After the Season

The Raiders won’t be making a decision on their next head coach until after the season, but there’s no question who the locker room wants as their next head coach.

Antonio Pierce has made a strong impression on the players in his short time as interim head coach, and the situation in Las Vegas seems to be shaping up a lot like it did two years ago when the locker room was begging for Rich Bisaccia to get the job.

We know Pierce is going to get consideration for the job, but if he doesn’t get the job, it sounds like the next GM and head coach be walking into a hornet’s nest of sorts…

“If things continue the way they are and Mark Davis doesn’t hire [Antonio Pierce], he’s going to have a mutiny,” Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter said this week on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

Obviously, the players don’t have control over the team, but some have control over themselves.

Josh Jacobs is a free agent after the season and while Davante Adams is under contract for three more years, he will have enough leverage to force the Raiders to trade him (more on that in a few weeks).

An ESPN report last week practically laid out the groundwork for his departure.

However the Raiders coaching situation plays out, it’s going to be something to watch. “Mutiny” is a strong word, but there’s no question that things could get interesting if Pierce is shown the door at the end of the season.

On a final note…

If the locker room really wants to keep Pierce as their head coach going forward, the solution probably isn’t all that complicated.

Just win, baby.

  1. Pierce has to go, seems like a good man but not enough experience as a coach. He’s beat two bad teams and if he loses to the donkeys he’s definitely got to go. Harbaugh should be our priority he won with krapernick, so he is capable of building a team with a mediocre qb.

    1. Harbaugh? You got to be kidding me. That”s the problem right now . How many times are you willing to keep overpaying these brand name coaches? Hell we are still paying Gruden , now we are adding McDumbass to the list. Al is probably standing up in the grave! Neither of them did nothing but wreck the team. They both got rid of so many of the young talented players who went to other teams and excelled. Instead, they brought in a lot of has been players and gave them far more than they deserved.

  2. I think Marky boy should take a look at the offensive coorinador, i seen a few bungles since Mcdummy was let go,
but against KC last week, in the second half when Josh Jacobs could no muster any forward advancement of the ball,
the team had 4th and 1, and handed off to jacobs in the back field. “for a loss”…….probably the absolute worse play to call… “can’t fix it” enough said,

  3. On winning organizations the players DON’T decide on the HC. They should have input, of course, by shouldn’t dictate who the HC will be. Get rid of any bad apple players that aren’t on board with whoever the HC turns out to be. If they only want to play for the current HC, they need to follow him to whichever club he goes to.

  4. I think the raiders need to stick with pierce and with our young qb make him flourish intp a good qb .we dont neef to waste anymore money on looking for another qb we wasted how much 63 or6y million dollors on a washed up no good for nothing qb who could produce a first down for 3 and a half quarters .embarassing but the thing is that as a fan i knew that to get him was a mistake we should have never got rid of derrick carr..but we did what we need to do is work on getting a better front line and help our qb .and our defence is the best it has been in 35 years .belive it or not defence is playing like a team .good we got rid of peters i seen him on a few plays not even trying to tackles he would allow tge player to run past him .hes gone thats good ..we need to stop bringing in head coched and messing up our team with diffrent plays and sheme its hard to get use to playing a certain way with 9 years in nfl and have 10 diffrent coaches..

  5. Pierce inherited this team, can’t base the winning and losing completely on him getting another expensive head coach is not going to help. I agree with players they need something to believe in. Look at all the coaches that have come and gone. Too much change.

  6. Keep AP as head coach the energy and momentum is where it should be especially in the wake of damage brought by prior coaching staff. Pierce has just enough experience to develop with the team, the chemistry is there, unless you can get Gruden and Carr back this off season, let it ride.

  7. Peirce deserves consideration and should depend on how the team plays in the remaining 9 games. But by no means should MD anoint AP the HC now without at least considering potential better options. Don’t let the players hire the coach. That happened once before in 1997 when the players lobbied for Joe Bugel and all that did was result in a horrible 4-12 season which was preceeded by 2 consecutive 8-8 seasons

  8. I believe Chucky needs to be back and we shouldn’t have to pay more money if he is still being paid from previous contract

  9. Please, if Pierce is not retained, NO CHUCKY! I’m tired of him hiring his useless buddies as DC, making horrible trades (Martavius Bryant), and wearing the team down with ruling practices late in the season. He had his chance.

Ever think how somebody the year after he left took the team to the super bowl!

  10. The Fans may revoult against him as well. Ive put out there the idea (formulating plans to initiate) of a fan union whereby we the fans have a say in steps an owner takes when operating team. Without us fans there is no NFL, NO MONEY, NO DECISIONS DAVIS CAN MAKE. It is about time we the fans got our voices heard n owners n players understand that we fans put a lot on the line supporting this entire league. We can n should make our voices count making sure that the worst owner in history isnt allowed to make decisions that impact our lives the way it does. I can confidently say that if I had any input over these years this team FLAT OUT NOT SIT IN THE POSITION IT NOW RESTS. No doubt in my mind. I need ALL FANS to contact me rgpomares209 at gmail because together we have power.
